My eldest DS 20 and youngest DS 17 share a room have done since DD came along 11 years ago, for finances and space seperate rooms not possible.
my DS1 is away at uni and will be going into his last year in September so has only been home the few days and summer break next summer he will be doing an internship so won’t be staying here.

the issue I have is they currently have a bunk double bottom single top, we need to replace the bed no space for two singles and the desks/wardrobes etc
I have seen doubles with a trundle underneath but that makes me thing our eldest will feel like a guest not his home.
another option would be a squeeze but a single with a fold away futon.
they have the biggest room.
DS1 is going travelling this summer but will be home for weeks rather than days between.

I want all my children to know they will always have a place in our home it’s not so easy as to say your a adult time to move out in this financial climate and being students

what’s the best way forward?

Does your DS2 need a double? We had a single guest bed that had a pull out bed underneath that came up to to the same height as the 'main' bed. They could be used as two singles, or pushed together as a large double, with the benefit of being able to put one away when not needed. Would that be an option? I agree a trundle bed so he is practically on the floor isn't great.

Discuss the bed replacement with both of them and show them all the options and which they would prefer?
