To ask what small things you have done to improve your every day life?

With the way everything is, I have been feeling extra stressed. For context I have a long term health condition and anxiety (both of which I am treated for).

I'm also finding being back in the office (3 days a week) exhausting so I'd like to ask if there are small things you have done (especially from home) that have improved your day to day life? I have been making a conscious effort to spend a lot less time on my phone, and especially Instagram/Facebook.

Love to hear your tips.

Delete those social media apps..free yourself. Going for a 45 daily walk.in nature after work helps anxiety massively. 20 mins of yoga a day as well.

NewtoHolland · 18/06/2022 21:22

Breathwork when I feel stressed.
Cooking myself a couple of meals. I really like each week.
Downloading podcasts to have something great to listen to on my commute

I spent a lot of time reading about vitamins in depth and have found some that make a huge difference to my health issues.

A really lovely cup for my morning cup of coffee. Just the one. Not a set. Never give to visitors. All mine!

Picking up a book and reading. Just for awhile I can be anything or anywhere. Luckily we have free book swap in a redundant telephone box in the village.

Purpleavocado · 18/06/2022 21:26

Getting up and getting my workout in before I do anything else. On days I'm in the office, that's 5.45, a bit later on wfh days. It's worth it, as I feel so much better for it.

skybluee · 18/06/2022 21:26

Gave up drinking all caffeine, now I drink just water (or milk).
I thought drinking caffeine before midday wasn't having an effect - it was.

I do this

Fitness each day

MrsMigginsCat · 18/06/2022 21:35

Cold water swimming. Makes me feel tingly and alive. Has improved my mental well-being enormously.

CharlotteRose90 · 18/06/2022 21:38

For me it was sorting out my work life balance. I have 2 health conditions that make me extremely tired so I was lucky enough to be able to negotiate a 3 on 3 off work week with my job. It helps so much.

the other is reading books or taking a walk. Both help me tremendously.

adorablecat · 18/06/2022 21:49

Bought a robot vacuum cleaner.

MrsRinaDecker · 18/06/2022 21:58

Making time to read and craft daily.
Setting screen time restrictions for certain apps on my phone (totally failed to apply those today though!)
Food delivery service, usually every other week, lifts the mental load.
Not saying yes to everything, I’m an introvert and need to avoid overwhelm.

Lemon1822 · 18/06/2022 22:00

If it’s possible and you can afford it, getting a cleaner is absolutely the best thing I’ve ever done to improve my day to day life. We have a cleaner come in every other week and to say it’s life changing would be an understatement. You can actually relax without feeling like you should be cleaning and me and my boyfriend never argue about cleaning anymore which used to be a big issue for us. It’s £35 every other week, so £18 each, and it’s the best money I ever spend. It’s flawless and makes me instantly relax.

Resigned from two volunteer committees I was on. They just sucked all the joy out of me.

Leftbutcameback · 18/06/2022 22:02

Walking or just spending time in green or blue places. Even in the city there are pocket parks. Also changing up routines such as walking a different commute.

Leftbutcameback · 18/06/2022 22:04

Also is there anything you can do to improve your office environment - pictures, plants, nice mug etc? (Appreciate you might have to hot desk).

ElbowsandArses · 18/06/2022 22:05

stretching routine in the morning while bath is running. Running for 20 mins 2-3 times a week. Walking most days for 30 mins. Reading a book for 20 mins in the evening. Staying off social media. Limit myself to one news summary a day (and not on tv). Great cup of coffee in the morning.

Timide · 18/06/2022 22:12

Delayed porridge in a slow cooker for the morning. Nice and warm for everyone to eat without any effort on my side.

Lyricallie · 18/06/2022 22:16

I really like pomodoro technique for staying on task. 25 minutes/50 minutes solid work on whatever task whether that's housework or work work. Then 5/10 minutes break. I used Harry Potter pomodoro YouTube videos to track my time or there's a website which is just a big countdown clock for it. Genuine been a life saver getting through my distance learning degree and my day to day job.

I was going to say the same thing. Cut out coffee and feeling so much better. Only ever had 1-2 cups a day, always before 12, and it's made a big difference. No afternoon slump which leads to bad food choices.

GreenManalishi · 18/06/2022 22:22

A divorce and a cleaner. Peace.
