Queuing in traffic at a busy roadabout, maybe 5 minutes of queuing leading up to it. Person behind me was revving his engine a lot as we all inched forwards.

As we got close to the roundabout, the lane widened into two, and he decided to pull out into the right hand side, then I felt a jolt and scrape. It all happened quickly but I realised he had scuffed my car. I expected him to pull over and stop, but he just carried on and went right at the roundabout. My husband got a picture of his car so we have the registration plate.

The damage isn’t awful- scuffed with a slightly deeper scrape towards the bottom. Is it worth reporting or should I just let it go and buff/ tcut the scrape myself?

Report it to the police - it’s a crime to leave the scene of an accident, no matter how small. Keep the photo as evidence. Did any other drivers stop?

Report to the police!

ComDummings · 18/06/2022 17:21

Obviously you should report to the police

girlmom21 · 18/06/2022 17:22

Get a damp cloth on that first. Most of that will just wipe off.

Report the twat. Impatient git

@girlmom21 , that’s the reason I’m questioning whether I should do anything further. It isn’t dented, and looks like superficial damage.

But the fact that he just drove away pissed me off!

You can still report it as a hit and run but to be honest the police will just tell you to go through insurance.

If you report to the police you'll have to report it to your insurer even if you don't claim.

Yep 101. Report to police. Glad you got his number @dustbunniesinthewild

Something similar happened to me and DH some 7 years ago, (a bit less damage but still £250-ish to fix,) and DH got the car registration number. Bloke gave us some foul language and zoomed off.

We reported him, and long story short, when the police confronted him, he denied he was at that location. Our dashcam footage said different. He then admitted he was there but did not scrape our car. Dashcam showed different there too, as did the bright green paint on our blue car (transferred off his car!) that we photographed. He just lied and lied, and got caught out by proof, over and over.

Upshot is, he ended up paying £265 for our car - for the paintwork to be fixed. We got it fixed and the police officer sorted it so the bill went to him. (So we never met again and he never knew who we were/where we lived etc.) He got a police warning for leaving the scene of an incident too.

I’d report him to the police simply because he didn’t stop. You’d probably get that polished out for very little cost, so I don’t know if it’s worth going through the insurance.
