To think a short reverse in a car park is fine?

Was at a local garden centre today. P&C spaces are few and far between at this place and as I passed I saw a woman (no kids 🙄) get into her car.

I was level with/ front end of my car just past hers. I shouted over and asked if she was about to leave and she said she was, so I reversed a few metres to let her out.

As I'm doing so a man in a Chelsea Tractor came round the corner and starts hammering on his horn while gesturing angrily and trying to keep moving forward.

I got out and explained I was moving back to let her out and got a sneery "it's a one way system" and having a right go.

Now I could have gone round the whole car park but would have lost the gold dust p&c space I needed for DS.

AIBU to think that even in one-way car parks a small amount of reversing is not only normal but to be expected?

I think he sounds like an arse just looking for someone to abuse.

I’d respect a one way system generally for safety and other people not expecting anyone to be going backwards, but short reverses not near corners are fine. Half a car length is no problem at all!
