To think airlines should be allowed to charge those who leave a disgusting mess

I flew recently and as we disembarked I couldn't believe the state some people leave their seats. Its not just those with kids. A trio of middle aged men across the aisle from us must have emptied a whole packet of crisps onto the floor then stamped on it.

I wish airlines could charge those who do this. Only a fiver or so but it might act as a deterrent and mean planes could be turned around slightly quicker. I don't know how it would be policed. Particularly for those who have moved seats. But it annoys me how disgusting and disrespectful people are

Jesus that’s awful. I’m only seen similar when I was teaching and then I rang the office to ask a cleaner to bring a hoover for the kids to solve it.

The only people it would piss off are entitled mingers so bring it on OP.

Let's see if anyone from Ryanair is on MN, they'll be the first to adopt it.

Personally I'd prefer the airline to ban them for a couple of years. With advanced passenger information it can be enforced.

If you accidentally spilled some crisps during a flight it would be pretty hard to clean up yourself though.

purpleboy · 17/06/2022 15:25

Agree, it's shocking the way some people leave shite, no attempt at all to clean up their crap.
We once has a bag of crisps explode they went everywhere, I spent half the flight on my hands and knees picking up crisps🤮 Not my finest flight, however I wasn't leaving that for someone else to clean up!

Ducksinthebath · 17/06/2022 15:53

How would you work that? Pony up a fiver before you can deboard? Airlines automatically charge you if they deem you’ve made too much mess? What if you didn’t, or it was a mistake, or just like most things airlines do it’s yet another opportunity to extract money from you?

Ideally everyone would be clean and tidy so that any mess could be given the benefit of the doubt as an unfortunate accident, but we don’t like in that world and sadly it’s also one where airlines operate like cowboys.

I don't really know. I wish I had the answer but no exaggeration, at least a third of the rows were left in an awful state. They wouldn't do this at home. Ditto in cinemas. I see this there too

Well I know of I spilled something I would tell cabin crew and offer to clean it

It's the entitlement that's shit.

Totally agree. How embarrassing. Though they obviously don't give a shit. Maybe being shamed would work?

I understand accidents happen but I doubt around a third of the plane accidentally dropped all their crisps. The best cabin crew moment I ever saw was an entitled woman behind me who was a bloody nightmare. She tried to get something from the overhead locker during take off which earnt her a bollocking. She then kicked off about something and her partner told her to stop. Finally she allowed her ds to tread a sandwich into the carpet. A member of cabin crew came over with cleaning stuff and told her it was a new plane and could she please pick her son's mess up. Entitled woman said it was cabin crews job to do that. Cabin crew said it absolutely wasn't and stood over her until she had picked up the worst of it. I applaud that cabin crew member as she took no prisoners

Yes , the crew come round with rubbish bags enough. There's no excuse to leave your seat area in a mes.
