Friendly neighbour or no?

Met a neighbour today who's supposedly lived across from me for a year, although never seen him before.
He seemed friendly at first, having a nice chat. He then started telling me how he sees me on the school run and telling me what times I leave my home throughout the day and that he watches me while he's in the bathroom. Honestly creeped me out a bit.
He then took some drinks from my shopping and left. Should I be concerned?

Wandered off with your bottles if he was socially awkward? And that could easily happen could it? The OP didn't pass them him to hold and he wandered off and forgot he TOOK them. I'd consider myself fairly socially awkward and I'm yet to steal any drinks.

Debbiejellinksy · 17/06/2022 14:22

So he peeps on you and nicks from you... Bloody hell, stay well away obviously.

Jackanackanory · 17/06/2022 14:35

Sounds like he was trying to intimidate you - telling you he’s watching you, taking your stuff etc. Cocky little twat. Best stay away from him if you can.

ElenaSt · 17/06/2022 14:42

How on earth do you manage in every day life if you can't assert yourself over speaking to a stranger who then brazenly steals your things?

Well he was helping her with her shopping from what she said. He may have done this absent mindedly because he was anxious, tired, drunk, he fancies the OP, who knows? He sounds as if he keeps himself to himself, one reason could be because he is not good with social interactions.

It seems to everyone like just he's a creep thieving bottles, but all I'm saying is it could be more nuanced than that.

Is it really so hard to imagine that some people lack confidence?

Maray1967 · 17/06/2022 14:53

For the sake of your child you need to practise what you are going to say to him firmly next time you see him.
If he is a creep then he might well try something again - so be prepared.
I had a workman put some of our stuff into his van when he was leaving. He knew I’d seen him do it. When he came to the door to collect his money I told him to put them back. I wonder whether he thought I would be too intimidated to say anything. You have to get tough with these people so they know they can’t mess with you. Much of it is about tone of voice and how you look at them.

Maves · 17/06/2022 16:11

This bloke is a twat...and I'd be a bit disturbed re the bathroom window thing.
He's testing you by nicking the drinks to see what you'd do. You shouldn't have let him take them honestly just watch yourself with this fucker now

LaughingFace · 17/06/2022 16:17

I think the issue with telling him to back off if I see him again is he's a fairly big guy, and it's a secluded area.

Onlyforcake · 17/06/2022 16:21

He's either just nicked them because he's a theiving can't OR trying to make you go round his. Send the biggest person you know don't engage on your own.

VillanellesCoat · 17/06/2022 16:26

I think it was the watching her every move from his bathroom window that most of us find creepy

VillanellesCoat · 17/06/2022 16:27

Quote fail! That was to @ImpartialMongoose

CuriousCatfish · 17/06/2022 17:05

Pinot4me · 17/06/2022 17:09

This creeps me out just reading it! Beth odd behaviour. Hope you’re OK, OP!

That's what freaks me out the most, I felt so uneasy during the school run
