High Street Store and Discount

Bought a few things in m and s today. When you get to the till if you have a Sparks Card they scan it and tell you of there are any discounts on what you are buying.

When you are looking at items in thestore though you don't know that. You go by the price on display. Is it unreasonable of the shop not to advertise the discount for Sparks card holders?
I would have thought it would be in their interest to let people know there might be a discount on what your buying.
You won't know till you get to the till.

It's the way they choose to do it. Shops like M&S do huge amounts of marketing research, followed by trials in a few stores. If it doesn't work for them they will change it.

LIZS · 17/06/2022 12:39

You would see it if you logged into your account and there used to be terminals in store where you could scan the card. I think the offers are card specific depending on your profile.

mrsfoof · 17/06/2022 12:46

Download the Sparks app. It's on there.

LAHallucinations · 17/06/2022 12:54

You need to download the Sparks app or sign into the M&S website. You can see all your offers on there.

millymae · 17/06/2022 13:02

The offers aren't the same for everyone - don't ask me why. Presumably M&S have their reasons .....
Both me and OH have Sparks card registered to different email accounts. I've asked several times if we could just have one account with two cards linked to it but have been told the system doesn't allow for this despite the fact that whatever either of us buys is paid for using a joint bank account.
We never get all the same offers - by way of example mine currently relate to beauty and clothing with a free croissant to collect when next in store and his are all for food.
if we are shopping together I always make the effort to check what we are each being offered then we then we present whatever card is best and similarly if either of us is going for something specific we will take the others card if it's offering a discount on what we might buy.
Its a faff to be honest but if they are offering a discount it's worth the effort .

Tescos do it
There is one price for club card and one for non club card. They saw it on the shelf though.

I get an email with all offers so can take advantage of them or not

sunglassesonthetable · 17/06/2022 15:17

I agree with you OP.

I think it's the most over complicated Store Card going. I never know what's going on.

I know you can log in to see but CBA to be honest. I might download the App but I'm more of an occasional shopper and it certainly doesn't incentivise me!

My mum is an avid M&S shopper though and she also find it a PITA. I doesn't feel like a benefit really more like a chore + possible benefit.

I think Tesco has been the gold standard for feeling like you're benefiting and right now with 2 prices on things it feels like that.

I've also enjoyed spending my Boots points in the past.

I see what you mean now. It depends on what you buy. A lady today was getting a free bunch of bananas and I got a choc bar. They call them treats it seems everyones are different.

They aren't Tesco though!

Is that what we want, all retailers offering the same?

sunglassesonthetable · 19/06/2022 08:07

@PansyPetunia

I know they're not Tescos 😁 It was my example of any easy to use and feel the benefit card.

No idea what others want but Tbh I don't care if they offered the same benefits - money off and points. Can't fault that IMHO.

dottypotter · 19/06/2022 16:30

I don't know if all stores are doing this but Marks are reducing the stock they carry down
This often means ordering which is a pain
