So my MIL has bought tickets for 4 of us to go somewhere for DD’s birthday. I love days out etc and am really thankful but I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want to share that experience with her? Did it not enter their minds? They are very absent grandparents so I don’t expect it but AIBU to think they should want to?

If they're usually more absent they probably wouldn't think you'd want them to go with just them?

Wierd. I think that's a nice gesture

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 16/06/2022 21:16

Some people don't want sole charge of children that don't belong to them.

I think it's nice they've treated you to tickets.

Feel really guilty now but I feel like they never want to spend time with them. They had their time I suppose. I dunno maybe I shouldn’t have any expectations at all.

My SIL said she doesn’t know why but when she thinks when she has kids it will be a big deal to them, so let’s see.

Try asking them round or something?

DisgruntledPelican · 16/06/2022 21:34

Just ask them! Is it very expensive; could six tickets be unaffordable?

AmaryIlis · 16/06/2022 21:35

Have you asked them why?

90may · 16/06/2022 21:37

Apparently she just isn’t very maternal
