God what a fng b. No, YANBU!!!

(Sorry for language but am outraged on your behalf)

Saturn74 · 14/01/2008 21:27

Move to a different brownies.
The leader sounds deranged.

somersetmum · 14/01/2008 21:27

Part of me thinks the woman sounds a loon and, if you have previous experience of this, why are you sending your dd to her Brownies in the first place?

Another part of me asks: was she the leader in charge? Because I cannot believe a guider would behave like this. They have to go through strict training programme before they can lead a Unit.

stripeytiger · 14/01/2008 21:27

YANBU, sounds completely ridiculous to me. What harm can a drink of water do....indeed aren't we all told these days how good water is for us. The woman sounds very odd to me, silly mare.

rantinghousewife · 14/01/2008 21:27

She said 'liar liar pants on fire'. What, is she 2!

BibiThree · 14/01/2008 21:27

I was a brown owl for a couple of years and to me, this sounds blardy ridiculous, what a cow.

yorkishbirdy · 14/01/2008 21:28

She is mad, you are not

Children should be allowed water as and when they want it, the idea of carrying a water bottle is that they do not need to disturb everyone else to get their water.

moljam · 14/01/2008 21:29

id be shocked if she went through any sort of programme.
its the only brownies round here and living in rural place its one of only things to do.ive already refused bus trip to sleeping beuty on saturday

Mind you, I think most Brown Owls are barking. But then I would say that, as ours kicked me out of brownies for being disruptive.

Miano · 14/01/2008 21:31

Have volunteered myself in groups like this and would never refuse a child a glass of water if they asked.

But none of the kids brought their own , too much hassel if everyone is drinking throughout activities.

It is only an hour and half though so it is better in that toime if they are not eating and drinking as its a distraction and kids being kids if one wants a drink they all do next thing you know they are queing up!!

Unless the child has a cough for eg. then it is probably fair to say no drinks allowed.

But she does sound over the top on how she handled it that should not happen.

Next time make her have a glass of water before going in. Take no notice of the other lady and if you have a problem with her attitude in general you should report it to the head.

kindersurprise · 14/01/2008 21:32

She sounds like a loon. I would take her out of the brownies, and you should think about putting in a complaint about the brown owl.

MaureenMLove · 14/01/2008 21:33

We're not all barking! Moljam, speak to her District Commission, she should have given you her number somewhere in the joining paperwork you should have.

moljam · 14/01/2008 21:34

MaureenMLoveno didnt get number.

The brown owl in question saw my Dad a few years ago, she said, 'how is ranting, she was always such a lovely girl!'

moljam · 14/01/2008 21:35

rantinghousewife what did you do that was so bad????

OP posts:
rantinghousewife · 14/01/2008 21:36

Can't remember, must have been bad!

MaureenMLove · 14/01/2008 21:38

OK, do you know of any other units that run from the same premises? Guide or Rainbow will do. They will all come under the same District and one of them will either be the District Commission or know her number.

MightyMoosh · 14/01/2008 21:41

Thats mad! I would never refuse anyone water! I was fuming when I found out a child I looked after at a nursery (his parents moved) was being refused water because they didnt want to change his nappy so often! An hour and a half is a long time to concentrate if you are thirsty.

moljam · 14/01/2008 21:45

exactly and imo if your thirsty your thirsty.she wasnt asking for anything special-just water!!!!!

Umlellala · 14/01/2008 21:53

We used to have a drinks and biscuit break in Brownies - each group (grrr, what's it called? y'know, Pixies/Imps etc) were responsible on a rota.

The Brown Owl does sound like a loon I agree!

minouminou · 14/01/2008 22:20

jesus mighty - that's abuse almost
don't stop going, moljam, just make sure that this woman's superiors are aware of this issue

Indith · 14/01/2008 22:26

Def go to the District commissioner (or if that happens to be the Guider in question the Division). My Rainbows can have a drink whenever they want, I'm shocked that she should be refused.

(but am pmsl at the 'strict training' somerset!)

Disclaimer: We are trained and CRB checked..honest

MaureenMLove · 14/01/2008 22:35

Yeah, I thought strict training was too!

moljam · 14/01/2008 22:39

thanks.i know the people who do rainbows so can get number from them.only thing is there good friends.as i said small place, everyone knows everyone etc.
