To this £400 a month for two morning sessions a week at nursery is a lot of money?

I haven’t looked at many other nurseries as this one is very close which is really convenient. Anyway, as it turns out it’s the only one in the vicinity with any availability at all.

DS will be 2 when he starts. In order for me to take on more business it would be really helpful for him to go to nursery 2 mornings a week. It also means that I could just have some time to my self every once in a while. If I didn’t have to utilise that morning for work occasionally.

on a separate note, I feel a bit anxious and sad about him being away from me like that and like maybe he’s too young? Shall I wait till he’s 3

ah! I digress 😆

Anyway…is £400 quid a lot per month for 2 mornings or is that just how much nurseries cost

thank you!

£50 a session? Seems steep.

Heli1copter · 14/06/2022 22:29

Depends where you are. I used to pay £65 per day when my DC was 2 in a private nursery in the North west

withacherryonthetop · 14/06/2022 22:30

Maybe it depends on area. A couple of years ago when my daughter was in nursery, I paid £40 a day. £400 for 2 mornings a week does sound a lot but if you can afford it and it would help then why not. But I would maybe check out a few nurseries in the area and price them up

Wickywickyyow · 14/06/2022 22:30

You'd get 2 full days with me (childminder) for that price.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 14/06/2022 22:30

that’s 92£ a day - I pay 96 a day but that’s for 10 hours a day

how many hours is that!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/06/2022 22:30

Nearly 50quid for a half day? I'd say yes! Have you priced other nurseries/childminders?

KatherineofGaunt · 14/06/2022 22:30

Sounds expensive, but I guess it depends where you are.

I'm not in London and our nursery is £35 a day for over-2s (8:45-3:45).

Also, your DS will be fine at nursery and will love it! They get a lot from the socialisation and range of activities to choose from, and I think it helps to become happy staying with familiar but non-family adults.

WingingIt101 · 14/06/2022 22:31

We are midlands and pay £54 for a full day or £35 for a half day.

So two half sessions a week would be £70 x 4 weeks (ish) in a month I'd be expecting closer to £280 a month.

Are the providing lunch?

Fupoffyagrasshole · 14/06/2022 22:31

Sorry I just re read your post properly - that sounds right to me ! 46 per session

I don't think that’s too much tbh

Cazzawazzawoowootoo · 14/06/2022 22:32

Depends on the nursery and the area.

You might find that if you put him in for more hours it became cheaper/better value. Basically childcare providers prefer children that will be there all day everyday rather than the odd day here and there.

QuiltedHippo · 14/06/2022 22:34

I pay £500 (with government 20% top up, don't forget that) for 3 full days so that does sound expensive

Bryonny84 · 14/06/2022 22:35

Wow, those prices. I'm a qualified nursery nurse but haven't worked in that industry for a long time. Maybe time to go back to it as £50 a half day is a decent piece of cash.

Hugasauras · 14/06/2022 22:36

It would be high here, but we are only £50 for a full day for under 3s. Are you somewhere very expensive?

strawberrycheesecake1989 · 14/06/2022 22:38

I’m in SW London

I’m in the North East and 4 mornings for my 15 month old is nearly £700 a month- £42 for a half day (7.30am to 12.30pm). It’s £75 for a full day. Includes food, nappies and wipes.
It’s crippling isn’t it. And has really gone up- my now 8yo also used to do 4 mornings and it used to be around £450.
Do you use the government tax free childcare scheme OP? For every £10, you pay £8 and the Gov pay £2.

I don’t think the cost of childcare to parents is reflected in the wages of the staff, unfortunately.

ihoeihoeihoe · 14/06/2022 22:41

What are the hours for the morning? Ours is £35 for the day. (8.45-2.45) or £20ish for morning (8.45-11.45) midlands.

LillyLeaf · 14/06/2022 22:42

We pay £75 for a full day, so it does seem a lot. Would it work out better value for a full day instead of mornings? DS is 22 months and loves nursery so I don't think it's too young.

strawberrycheesecake1989 · 14/06/2022 22:45

@MarianosOnHisWay yeah It’s pretty unbelievable

no I hadn’t heard of that - I’ll look into it now thank you x

South Wales here and a full day inc food is £41! Half day is £27.50, stunned at people paying double that.

Is this a typo? How can 2.45pm signify the end of the day for anyone?!

OP I’m near you and ours is £90 a day

Rumplestrumpet · 14/06/2022 22:49

That's about what you'd pay here in East London too. Extortionate. My friends in the EU think I'm making it up!
