Lyme disease questions

We're on holiday in the Peak District - lots of walking, but on pretty defined paths, not through bracken etc. Sunday late afternoon DH came over very shaky, achey, with chills. He looked terrible. Took paracetamol and improved - better next day still taking paracetamol and feels fine today.

No obvious signs of tick bite. Could this be Lyme disease, and if not, any ideas. Earliest he can get appt with our docs is next week - should we be doing something earlier? DH is never I'll, but on Sunday he honestly looked dreadful, full on shaking.

Without the tick it's hard to say but if you go to the doctor and tell them the scenario there's a high chance they'll give you the course of antibiotics anyway.

There is a blood test or two but they are unreliable close to infection.

I have a friend who is several years into the debilitating effects of disseminated Lyme and I would recommend anyone concerned about it to seek treatment or advice at the earliest opportunity

It's also unusual for the symptoms to kick in line that on the day, flu like stuff happens 24 hours to 48 hours later and the rash can appear a long time after.

If he was stuck on the same day as exposure it's less likely to be Lyme.

I'd still have it checked out though

*sick on the same day

I had lyme disease last year and was really lucky that I got the bullseye bite as not everyone does.

When I was bitten I came over dizzy and my vision went weird, sort of like tunnel vision. I wasn't ill other than that and then the bite came up a few days later. I would say definitely get the antibiotics from your GP if you can. They're intense and definitely made me feel more ill than the lyme disease but worth it.

I read there's also a vaccine now so I'd definitely look into that if you do a lot of countryside walking.

I would get it checked out but thought Lyme disease took a week or so for any symptoms , I would suspect covid or a cold more likely

I have had them on me after walking across open fields.

I have always known when I have been bitten though.

When my mum got Lymes disease she had a very obvious tick bite mark (big red and purple around the bite on her leg). Altho didn't show for a week or two after. Needs to thoroughly check for ticks/marks

Thanks all - will see if he can get a drs appt just to be on the safe side.

I noticed a bump on my leg and exactly a week later I woke up with a huge bullseye rash around the bump. I don't remember any particular sudden onset symptoms, so it could be that your husband is in the clear because he became sick so quickly. It's worth checking with a doctor anyway but it doesn't sound like lyme disease based on your description.
