Rude people

Just taken 14 year old DS for his covid booster after receiving a letter from NHS asking us to book it. All booked online no problem. DS is autistic.
Got to the centre and went through three people all nice and professional. 4th person was incredibly rude and gave me an absolute grilling about why we were there, WHY is he having the booster, why as he's only 14. Her manner was so off and I was a bit taken aback so I said we had received a letter from the NHS to book and so did. She rolled her eyes and said 'BUT WHY and wheres the letter'. I said I have the booking reference, I don't have the letter. She then looked at DS and said 'does he have autism' and I said yes. She sighed and then said 'well you need to say that then don't you'.
I genuinely don't understand how and why people are so rude. The letter was the generic NHS booking letter, you don't need to take those along. I don't care about being asked questions, it was the eye rolling and attitude. As we walked away she turned to her colleague and said 'god, they are all out today aren't they' under her breath but I heard perfectly. As I was with DS I didn't say anything as he would be upset, but I don't understand why she was so horrible? I've never one day in my life spoken to anyone like that, especially not when I'm working or volunteering and especially not when they are with a child who is clearly nervous. What makes you like that?!
I realise it's a trivial thing and I'll have forgotten about it tomorrow, it just made me wonder if she knows she was rude and why she did it. I was polite and I'm not stupid, I answered what she asked me. It also wasn't private and everyone in the line could hear the conversation.

She was so damn rude and I wouldn't hesitate to complain. She shouldn't be in that role. And so rudely to ask in front of him and everyone about his Condition. Yanbu, definitely complain.

You 100% need to report that pig of a woman. How dare she speak like that to you and your child. I'd be fuming.

worraliberty · 12/06/2022 15:26

Complain

3monkeybars · 12/06/2022 15:27

This could have been a situation where I pulled out the classic MN "do you mean to come across so rude?". Definitely complain, what an awful attitude

ofwarren · 12/06/2022 15:28

You should definitely report her

Traceyfudge77 · 12/06/2022 15:28

Is she a doctor’s receptionist magically transported from the 1970’s? They were often like that in those days, demanding to know what illness you had in front of a full waiting room.

Definitely complain OP, she was more than just rude. Hope your lad is OK.

God, no situation calls for anyone to make themselves sound like a wet lettuce! 😬

Mischance · 12/06/2022 15:33

I do think that you should complain - this is truly unacceptable.

Hdpsbfb · 12/06/2022 15:34

Please make sure you complain

Marlaah · 12/06/2022 15:35

Yanbu. She shouldn’t be doing that job. Complain and, if you’re able, put a review on the net. I had a very odd experience with my last Covid booster which smacked of misplaced authoritarianism.

SystemOverloadedNameChange · 12/06/2022 15:36

Thank you, the only reason I didn't say anything was because I was with DS who would become very upset and who was already nervous about his jab.
He doesn't like me telling people about his autism anyway, especially not someone asking me to announce it loudly in front of a line of people. I still have no idea if she was a nurse or just booking in, she didn't say. She just took the form we had filled in moments earlier and barked at us. Oh well, at least DS didn't clock as he was distracted by reading the signs (he loves a sign!)

Complain, what a bitch. Sorry she was so mean OP.

If fact leave DS at home and go back now, she needs spoken too.

AllHailKingLouis · 12/06/2022 15:38

God I hate people.

im afraid I would have caused a scene. Bitch needs telling. I bet she treats the elderly with contempt too.

Sadly it shuts at 2pm, we were the last appointment of the day which I booked so it was quieter. Didn't work out as still a line of people but fortunately DS was ok with it. I definitely will complain, it sounds from her comment like I wasn't the only one she had spoken to like that during the day.

There is a triage nurse like that at my local hospital OP. She is truly vile. Sorry you got one the same. How are they not sacked? I didn't complain as my DC is also ASD and would have been upset/annoyed.
