Just taken 14 year old DS for his covid booster after receiving a letter from NHS asking us to book it. All booked online no problem. DS is autistic.
Got to the centre and went through three people all nice and professional. 4th person was incredibly rude and gave me an absolute grilling about why we were there, WHY is he having the booster, why as he's only 14. Her manner was so off and I was a bit taken aback so I said we had received a letter from the NHS to book and so did. She rolled her eyes and said 'BUT WHY and wheres the letter'. I said I have the booking reference, I don't have the letter. She then looked at DS and said 'does he have autism' and I said yes. She sighed and then said 'well you need to say that then don't you'.
I genuinely don't understand how and why people are so rude. The letter was the generic NHS booking letter, you don't need to take those along. I don't care about being asked questions, it was the eye rolling and attitude. As we walked away she turned to her colleague and said 'god, they are all out today aren't they' under her breath but I heard perfectly. As I was with DS I didn't say anything as he would be upset, but I don't understand why she was so horrible? I've never one day in my life spoken to anyone like that, especially not when I'm working or volunteering and especially not when they are with a child who is clearly nervous. What makes you like that?!
I realise it's a trivial thing and I'll have forgotten about it tomorrow, it just made me wonder if she knows she was rude and why she did it. I was polite and I'm not stupid, I answered what she asked me. It also wasn't private and everyone in the line could hear the conversation.
