To ask about your hobbies (need ideas!)

I’m going through a divorce (tough but he was emotionally abusive so I know its the right thing). One thing I am realising is that I have completely lost myself, partly having young children and also just putting stbxh’s needs/wants before mine.

So now I have the opportunity to focus on me, but I don’t have any idea what to do! I’m not really sure what makes me happy (apart from doing things to make the dc happy).

So what do you do with your spare time. I’m looking for ideas of things I can do at home when the dc are in bed and things out of the house when the dc are with their dad.

All ideas welcome!

I've taken up playing the drums and joining a choir within the last year. Also joined the gym. Like to read and did buy some painting things but haven't really got round to it yet. Also started helping out with my DD's brownie pack.

In some cases yes! I just deleted my own input before posting. Far too unusual and folks will know me. changing my name on the App never works for some reason?

ventreàterre · 12/06/2022 02:04

I prefer solitary hobbies, but most of these can be made more social, if you can find a local group for them.

gardening
photography (combined with walking)
reading/audiobooks/podcasts
crochet/knitting
quilting
diamond painting
watercolour
creative writing
musical instruments/singing
jewellery-making

There's an ebb and flow to how active I am with these at any given time, but they're all things I've enjoyed as hobbies.

Jigsaw puzzles
Woodworking
Up-cycling old furniture with paint etc.
Scrapbooking - not the sort you did as a kid, look it up, it can be very absorbing particularly when you have kids! Showing my age here, but a did a scrapbook for my DD's 30th birthday, going from birth to present day, and she loved it, it can be very emotional and rewarding.

Recently just become obsessed with arrow words.. bought a book after doing one in a paper and now it's my go-to thing for switching off after a busy day looking after my baby and my man child 😬😬😬

NoHeavenNoMore · 12/06/2022 03:01

Also love reading but I don't really get much chance so listen to lots of audiobooks now - mainly in the car but also whilst cleaning 😊

I like darning socks - I know total weirdo, but I hate to see the end of lovely pair of socks

CrossBlueCat · 12/06/2022 08:53

At home - gardening, audiobooks, studying and just relaxing.

Away from home gym/swim twice a week and golf (love golf, very sociable), plus one night a week I go for a drink (soft drink as I have to drive) with colleagues.

I found it a bit tough at the beginning of my divorce/working out what I wanted to do/fit in. I’m a few years on now. The crucial thing for me was to make friends as I’d moved with XH and didn’t have any here. I’ve done that through golf/gym.
