Friendly Reminder

Why are all reminders suddenly friendly?
The family centre sent me a friendly reminder about my appointment to weigh DD1, Boots emailed me a friendly reminder about some offers they sent that are about to expire.
To be honest it comes across as almost threatening, as in they are being friendly now but might not be another time...

I often drive past a cafe that has "everyone welcome" written on the sign. It makes me wonder why they need to point that out.

What happened in the past that made people unwelcome? Who doesn't feel welcome?

I've never been in because the fact they feel they have to tell me I'm welcome puts me off.

It might be a pandemic reaction say if unmasked or unvaxxed were previously not allowed in?

I thought the Polite Notices on parking etc were because if you look briefly you would think it said Police Notice and take heed

No it said that before the pandemic, it's a permanent sign, there us the cafe's name and then "everyone welcome" underneath.

My dentist sends gentle reminders! I'm not sure what he thinks the reaction to the reminder would normally be.

I had someone start sending me ‘Gentle reminders’ for a task I do every week and have done for 10 years. It made me cringe and cross in equal measures.
