How do I get rid of all my doom boxes?

Yesterday I committed to a massive clear out. We simply have too much stuff. I want everything streamlined and simplified with a place for everything. I have doom boxes as part of household administration and in the garage. Any tips please?

What is a doom box? And what do you mean 'part of household administration'?

Is a doom box for if there's like a nuclear attack? If so can you start eating your way through supplies?

It’s a box of stuff that you put away intending to organise but never do. Stands for “don’t organise only store”.

I love the term doom box. I knew what that must mean before the explanation as I have an attic full of them! No advice, following for help!

I have doom bags and a chair of doom. Reading this with interest and a hope that I'll be doom free at some point.

Bin the lot , you probably wouldn't notice most of it gone.

One at a time with doom boxes!
Get them all out, empty into a pile- seems overwhelming but
Just chuck it into room-oriented doom boxes. Then Monday is sitting room doom box day, Tuesday kitchen doom box, ect

Once doom boxes have had things emptied , shove remaining doom box away for a few months. If not touched in that time, it's a bin box, not a doom box

Also organisers for things. Everything needs a home

Take to the charity shop. We moved 2 years ago, due to getting building work done there was a load of boxes never unpacked. The only thing 8 found when unpacking that didn’t go to charity was my late mum’s crystal glasses. Which someone will send to charity when I pass away….

We have an attic of doom. Following thread for some useful tips.

Get rid of it all. Why are you keeping it? There’s no point.

And going forward, everything has one home. Eg pens - they all live in 1 place. Then you always know where to find one and where to put them away.

Ah! Oh I have a doom draw in that case.

Why not aim low to start with: take out 50% of each box and sort them out ruthlessly. Then leave the other 50% to the next day. It may feel more manageable if you break down the number of decisions you have to make in one session.

I always recommend a slob comes clean podcasts, books and blog.

Pick a box. Remove obvious rubbish. Take each item and ask where would I look for it first? Take it there right now.

If you don't where you'd look for it, ask would I even know I had this? If not, bin it or donate it.

Keep doing it. Eventually you'll get through them all.

I like her methods as you only make progress, no dragging everything out and making more of a mess and you can stop at any time. You can apply the questions to anything at all and I've done my whole house like this.
