To start reporting posts in social media with wild animals in a domestic setting

I’ve recently started getting a lot of these in my Facebook or instagram or twitter timeline- I’ve obviously liked lots of cute pictures of big cats and otters etc, but now a lot of the ‘funny animal’ posts are looking like they are in a domestic setting.

I’ve just had a load of ones with dog-sized cats (lynx or similar) in a house. There have been otters and monkeys too (and even though the monkeys were being rescued I think it’s still encouraging the practice)

I think I may be unwittingly driving the social media algorithm and I’m pretty sure quite a lot of people own these animals because they get social media attention… I don’t think wild animals belong in the home as pets, and even if the ones I see are well looked after, the encouragement of it is a bad idea

so I won’t be liking any of these - but should I report them….?

YANBU. I am getting lots of these as well. Always seem to be lynx, serval etc, with them snarling in a domestic setting. Wish they'd go away!

@allthelittleangelsriseupriseup yes that’s it, snarling!

Whether it's morally right or not I doubt it violates the terms of use of the social media site, so I doubt reporting would go far.

Depending which social media it is, see if there's a way to click 'not interested' (tik tok for instance has this) do that a few times and they'll soon disappear from your feed.

In many countries it's perfectly legal to own big cats as pets - in fact, it is here too as long as you have the correct licensing in place.

I'm not sure what you'd be reporting them for?

Girlwhowearsglasses · 10/06/2022 22:51

Oh I’m sure they’re legal in whatever country they’re in, that’s why I posted because I was going to report but it’s not what I’d call ‘animal cruelty’ in the immediate sense of the word. I will click on ‘I don’t want o see this’ or similar then
