Eating disorder?

My sister lost weight a few years ago, her BMI dropped from 30+ to 21, very proud of her taking steps to get healthier, I've always supported her no matter what.

I'm starting to worry a bit. She talks about being terrified of putting weight on, won't eat out anymore, and is very strict with what she allows herself. As far as I can tell, her weight hasn't dropped anymore though.

Can you have an eating disorder but not be underweight? Am I worrying unnecessarily? She checks herself in mirrors constantly and calls herself fat even though she's a size 8/10. Should I say something?

You can absolutely have an eating disorder and not be underweight - you can have an eating disorder and be fat, be obese, put on weight, maintain.

Having said that - maybe talk to her about your concerns?

An unhealthy relationship with food is an eating disorder. Sounds like she needs help to guide her through bathe issues she’s having

Thanks both. I'll try and have a gentle word with her, she does get defensive about it but I'll try my best!

Oh poor girl.....having the same issue with my step daughter. She is in her teens. Finally admitted to being bulimic (which I pretty much knew). There is Bulimia and Anorexia. She has agreed for me to take her for help. It's horrible if this is what she has, but there is hope. More than happy for us to message...Big hugs xx
