I'm starting my job search soon and am just curious what the job market is currently like. Obviously it varies in different sectors but I'm just curious what it's like in your sector.

Lots of candidates around so companies are being choosy.

Absolutely!

Just heard back from the last company of my job search - took near on 5 weeks to hear a no for a £9.90p/h and more than 1 interview for a Helpdesk Advisor role, which was vacant.

Another place was a call centre type operation, who each month of this year so far have without fail advertised the same role - got to interview to be told "we're in no rush to recruit". Wasn't surprised when on the on mass unsuccessful email landed 8 days later before which the job became re-advertised again.

Oil and gas, horrendous.

I work for a university and have never seen so many jobs as are currently being advertised. This is in part due to a recruitment freeze throughout the pandemic.

However, there's always loads of competition for jobs here despite the increasingly difficult climate in HE and stagnant pay.

I’m in IT, get headhunted a lot. Took a call from a headhunter and now in role, big increase in salary

I'm in a senior role in energy and you can't move without tripping over a headhunter. We're struggling to recruit in all areas despite great pay and conditions.

I work in the Nhs and we have recently advertised for a band 2 admin assistant/receptionist role - part time 3 days 22.5hrs.

The money isn't great (barely above minimum wage!) and they expect a fair amount from them.

Then the head of service asks how many applicants???
I said 3
2 of which didn't look remotely suitable

Protocol is to interview 4-6 people there's only one suitable and this is the second time it's been out so he said just bring in the one suitable one see how they interview

Pre covid we'd have had a lot more applications but the combination of it being in a hospital and part time and low pay doesn't help

Other departments are struggling too the lower end roles are proving very difficult to fill
