Can you gain weight in targeted areas?

I’m under weight and could do with gaining a few pounds to be healthy. However my torso is a good size, it’s my arms and legs that look too thin.

is it possible to defy nature and gain weight where your body naturally wouldn’t? Weight lifting perhaps?

I would think it would have to be muscle gains so yeah probably weight lifting?

can help sculpt the body

As PP said the only way to grow a particular area is to increase muscle there. Eat a calorie surplus, lots of protein and do some weight training on the areas you want to grow.

Building muscle is incredibly hard work though and you will inevitably gain a little weight in the areas you would rather not but you have a better chance of directing it this way rather than just eating more.

Weight training can definitely change your body shape! Plus it’s enjoyable.

Id go to a PT for advice on it. The guy I go to showed me pictures of another client who wanted to do what you do, and she looked amazing.

@grey12 what do you think 'sculpting' is? Adding muscle is definitely possible with weightlifting. Its not realistic to expect to change one part of the body without there being some change to the rest, but arms and legs are definitely areas that could be built up with some weight training.

It does require eating more food than usual as well as weight training to add muscle, and it won't happen overnight, but it is definitely possible.

There are health conditions which can do that (lipodema) but the only way for someone without such a health condition to increase the size of an area is to train and build muscle.

@grey12 you can add visible muscle to make arms and legs bigger and heavier, while not adding any visible muscle or bulk to other areas. Not to say there would be zero change, because you can't truly isolate an area to exercise it, but you can certainly do it in a way that doesn't add enough in some areas for you to tell with a tape measure.

I'm pretty sure that's what the OP was asking, I'm not sure if you're being pedantic just to prove a point but it's not going to be helpful to the OP.
