have done the whole 'slowly savour a single square of excellent dark chocolate' for years. Bollocks. What I really love is super-sweet crap milk chocolate, the cheaper the better. Latest find: my supermarket is marketing bags of mini knockoffs of famous brands - cheap snickers, mars, bounties, milky ways etc. Absolute fucking bliss. Admit: you do too.

AIBU: only single-estate fair-trade dark chocolate is worth the candle

AINBU: bring all the sweet crap here, baby

And what's all this nonsense about Creme eggs tasting awful nowadays?
I didn't get any this Easter and I was MOST disappointed

all bullshit, Cadburys is bloody yummy.

ClinkeyMonkey · 07/06/2022 22:41

I use the Tesco cheapy chocolate if I need melted chocolate for traybakes etc. Everyone always asks what it is (in a good way ...!) Sometimes I buy it, then go to make something and discover it has all been snaffled. It's a big hit in our house.

user7637293 · 07/06/2022 22:45

I love Cadbury's and nestle.

Posh chocolate can fuck off.

Goatinthegarden · 07/06/2022 22:45

I love the really cheap 10p mix-up chocolate, like jazzies, those weird little tinfoil cups and chocolate mice. Or chocolate coins and the little solid chocolate balls you get in nets from M&S.

I can’t remember the last time I actually had any of the above though….might go and order some online.

HolyMerlot · 08/06/2022 08:31

You cannot beat cheap advent calendar chocolate, I'm talking your £1/£2 advent calendars

LadyEloise1 · 08/06/2022 08:54

Tesco's copy of a Mars Bar tastes better. There I've said it Blush

BarbaraofSeville · 08/06/2022 08:57

I really like Ferrero Rochers.

I think they're my favourites.

butterpuffed · 08/06/2022 08:57

I love Cadbury's chocolate but I can buy 3 bars for the price of one of them in Asda. Tastes just as delicious !

turquoisebuttons · 08/06/2022 08:59

Absolutely. To be honest, until fairly recently I thought galaxy and ferrero rocher were posh 😆 I was quite surprised that some people think of them as cheap and nasty!

coffeecupsandfairylights · 08/06/2022 09:01

Cadbury really has turned rank 🤢

I love a Ferrero Rochelle though, or a box of mint matchsticks!

Cocobeau · 08/06/2022 09:03

I hate birthdays, xmas, etc when people give you a box of Lindt, Thorntons or some other "nice" chocolate. I have to smile politely and be grateful whilst knowing that I'm immediately going to be palming it off to someone else. I'd rather just have a bar of dairy milk.
That said, I can't do the really cheap stuff. MIL will sometimes say she got some kinders as a treat if she knows we are popping round but it's always the Lidl version which are nasty.

Thestoppedfan · 08/06/2022 09:04

I love all chocolate. My favourite is Lindt or galaxy or the really cheap dark chocolate. I always get gifted small boxes of expensive chocolates the type that you feel guilty for eating more than one, when what I really want is that £3 massive slab of galaxy to dip in my tea.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/06/2022 09:09

I far prefer dark chocolate, but it doesn't have to be expensive. Sainsburys do an own brand dark chocolate bar with hazelnuts which is amazing, and Co-op's own brand 85% cocoa is far better than many more expensive versions.

theMedicinalPorpoise · 08/06/2022 09:17

This thread made me think about Ritter Sports and how I can never find the praline one in the shops any more and now I've just gone on Amazon and they have All The Flavours...

Yes! Those chocolate cups are so good
I am either eating that or £££ chocolate Grin

BarbaraofSeville · 08/06/2022 09:21

Have you tried lidl? Ritter Sport is DPs favourite and I find they've got the best selection. Although Morrisons have just started selling a limited variety.

If we ever reschedule our pandemic postponed trip to Berlin, we're going to

actiongirl1978 · 08/06/2022 09:34

YAB so U.

Nothing is better than the sharp crack of Aldi 85% chocolate.

Eaten from the fridge either straight up, or dipped in tea to melt.

When I had covid I could only eat sweet food a d my teeth felt furry and I had ulcers. As soon as my taste buds were better I was straight back into my several bars a day dark choc habit.

LadyEloise1 · 08/06/2022 09:45

Tesco did a Peanut Butter milk chocolate bar in their cheap Tesco Chocolate range.
It was sublime.
The feckers discontinued it a couple of years ago.
It was made in Spain.
Would anyone know of a dupe ?

Favouritefruits · 08/06/2022 09:46

I love Cadbury, Lindt and Galaxy but can’t stand Nestle it has a weird grainy after taste.

Munchiesareyum · 08/06/2022 10:00

Oh may I add to this?

The Swiss have chocolate right, 'Marabu' chocolate! They have milk, dark, nutty, mixed with dime.. the list goes on but milk and hazelnut are amazing.

SurfBox · 08/06/2022 10:10

Many of the Thorntons and Lindt selection are no different to Dairy milk though or regular chocolate. Yea they do have some rich stuff but much of their selection is just tacky (although delicious) and simple like Cadburys. I thought the same as you until I was given a large Thorntons box of chocolates and discovered they are little different to standard Roses.

SurfBox · 08/06/2022 10:15

I was the same as you but was pointed out by a wealthy friend who knew his chocolate that they along with Milk Tray are ''supermarket posh'' but generally all tacky and cheap.

He then opened a small box of Belgian chocs he paid like well over 100 quid for and they were nice, he told me that was real chocolate. In fairness they were lovely but still not worth paying that cash for imho.

I think the wealthy who know their food and drink would scoff at the choices we common folk think of as luxurious.

dottiedodah · 08/06/2022 10:41

I really like Galaxy chocolate mmm! Spent a small fortune on a very expensive box of Chocs and they were really vile! No body liked them .Also love white chocolate and those sort of white Chocolate buttons with hundreds and thousands on .Love Minstrels as well .Somewhere I read the Queens favourite Restaurant in London serves glasses full of Minstrels!

EarringsandLipstick · 08/06/2022 12:47

I do appreciate nice chocolate, but nothing satisfies a craving like Cadbury Dairy Milk.

This is me.

I've a very sweet tooth. So I do buy the good stuff, 80% upwards dark chocolate & have the one square blah blah.

But at least once oh who am I kidding, way more a week I will buy a Dairy Milk or a variant thereof, like giant chocolate buttons. (Ooh. Nearly lunchtime. My walk will take me past a selection of Cadbury's confection, I think)

I really dislike the own brand knock offs tho. Always vile.

EarringsandLipstick · 08/06/2022 12:48

humancalculator · 07/06/2022 21:56

Glad people are being honest. I suppose that we are actually dealing with two separate things: dark savoury chocolate, all slow sophisticated delight, and instant sugar pleasure hit.

Yes!! 😂
