To think it’s morally wrong to buy yellow stickered items if I’m not on a tight budget?

Just to be clear I don’t necessarily think it’s morally wrong but AIBU polls don’t really work on uncertainty do they?

Basically I feel morally conflicted about buying discounted food in the supermarkets, particularly now during the cost of living crisis.

I’m not on a tight budget, but I do LOVE a good bargain. Few things beat the thrill of finding profiterole stack reduced to 25p.

But should I be thinking about people who might be depending on picking up such bargains just to make their food budget stretch.

I often shop in Waitrose and frankly think that most people who shop in Waitrose aren’t on the breadline. But I shop in Lidl as well and feel maybe I should be leaving the Lidl bargains for someone else.

Or should I just crack on, enjoy my bargains and focus on the fact I’m reducing food waste?

YANBU - leave the yellow stickers for those who need them

YABU - enjoy the bargains

Stroopwaffels yes that’s prime reduction time in our little co op. It’s attached to a petrol station so most people buy bits not a full shop and so decent meat and veg is usually reduced 75%. I walk up deliberately for a look quite often. They clear the shelf and throw it all in rubbish at 8.30pm so no qualms. You get to know local times for best reductions.
Love cake story. We once got a huge Sunderland football birthday cake for pennies assume it had been loaded on their delivery in error we are no where near Sunderland!

The bargains are there for whoever gets them first. For example, I got 12 ripe nectarines for 60p on Sunday because I was in the right place at the right time. I sometimes go to Waitrose but only at 7.00om because I know that is when they knock prices down. Can get £50 of shopping for under £20. I am not on the breadline but not well off either, but a bargain is a bargain. Take advantage when you get the chance.

Here is what I have said. Shit happens, the Internet is a privilege like flying. We know the risks. Don't let your team beat themselves up over it x

Same here, I rarely buy meat at full price as its what really pushes our food shop costs up. I meal plan and try and eat cheaper, vegetarian meals. But sometimes I get lucky and find some great whoopsies that I then make a meal with. I just got some lamb which was really reduced. Lamb is a luxury for us so it's nice to be able to have something a bit more exciting that chicken for Sunday lunch.

It's like some of the special ranges that the supermarkets do, and some meals at normally around £4/5 or deserts at £3 etc, it's omg, but then with yellow stickers it's much better savings and I get to try them. Otherwise I cannot justify e.g. £6 pizza, just to have an expensive meal that's nice for five mins etc

I just saw the guy with a trolley putting out reduced cheese. I live in the Middle East, stuff is expensive. I don't know if you can freeze buffalo mozzarella but I hope so 😀

It's not like you're stealing from a food bank. Crack on! I love a bargain too. I think about the food waste side of it. You can literally see them binning whatever is left over at the end of the day.

In our Waitrose the collection lady from the food bank is occasionally waiting at the reduced section. The staff do not allow her to gather up the food into trolleys until the the clock chimes 9pm on the dot. Can be a little bit awkward with her watching a group of us gathering up groceries that she would otherwise be having. Can't say it has ever stopped me though.
