Would you find these repeated sorts of comments from friends annoying

It's 2 in particular out of a group of women I've known since school.
They're about how I'm always moving house/changing jobs in their eyes. It's certainly more often than them, but it's hardly every month.
I lived in a place for a year and moved to my new place a few months ago. Before that I lived in another place for a year.

I combine two different jobs which I enjoy, I told one and you could see her laughing, and she didn't say anything positive, as if it were hilarious that somebody could possibly do two different lines of work.

I have a partner now but a few years back I was called a 'serial dater' by these 2 for having been on a few dates.

Or it's just stuff like, "You're so weird!"
Like at one point I didn't like hummus, I bought some carrot dip things and left the hummus, one of them went "You are seriously the weirdest person ever!"
All because I didn't eat some hummus.

I might be overly sensitive, it's not the end of the world at all but it's just a bit annoying. People are allowed to move and so on, one of them moved twice in under a year. Just annoying how it's always about me.
We're all in our early 30s

It's always this "Oh I can never keep up with what you're doing."

Apparently they can 'never' keep up with what hairstyle I've got either. I've had the same hairstyle roughly for years, but I experiment with wigs and extensions sometimes. This is also a source of amusement for them

I voted yabu for caring what these twits think

neverbeenskiing · 06/06/2022 14:04

They sound really quite bitchy and immature. What do you get out of these friendships? I'd be tempted to distance myself if I were you.

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 06/06/2022 14:04

To me, it sounds like they don't like you very much and are looking for ways to put you down. In all likelihood, their dislike for you is nothing to do with the stuff they comment on. They don't seem like very nice people.

Anonymous48 · 06/06/2022 14:06

I voted YABU because you spend time concerning yourself with their comments. You either enjoy their company or you don't. If not, just don't spend time with them.

cherrymax · 06/06/2022 14:06

Did you post this before? If not, someone else has an almost identical issue a while back.

If it bothers you just say 'can you stop going on about this please'. It is annoying if it's not actually meant in a kind teasing way and is more mean and judgy.

Vsirbdo · 06/06/2022 14:06

I suspect you have that “identity” in the group now for whatever reason which is difficult to shrug off. It probably more reflects on that they’re self conscious that there’s not much change in their own life.
I would politely call them out on it and ask why they always say it and what’s wrong with what you’re doing

Afriendinneedsafriendindeed · 06/06/2022 14:10

I really do need to call them out on it. Nobody's stopping them changing jobs or whatever, it's really not my issue and not for them to project onto someone else

If they were phrasing it in a more positive way then that would be different, but it's coming across as judgy

Did you post this exact thread a few weeks ago?

PurpleButterflyWings · 06/06/2022 14:32

Yeah, they are rude, nasty, negging arseholes. Not friends. Give them a wide berth/ghost them.

PurpleButterflyWings · 06/06/2022 14:33

toastofthetown · 06/06/2022 14:10

Did you post this exact thread a few weeks ago?

It is massively familiar.

10HailMarys · 06/06/2022 14:40

Are you the person who was upset a few weeks back because your friends joked about how often your phone number changed?

Either way, you're being over-sensitive.

Kindofcrunchy · 06/06/2022 14:46

Yeah I had "mates" like this at school, also saying stuff like "so who's the latest boyfriend?" "who do you have a crush on now?" because I dated more than they did... Saw some of them recently and again, "oh wow you're still with mr crunchy??" Yes we've been together 12 years and married for 6. Please fuck off.

Thingsdogetbetter · 06/06/2022 14:49

They have narrow unchanging lives and can't imagine anything different. I'd be saying "my god, you've live in the same place for sooooo long, that's so unadventurous/boring/old fashioned" etc etc.

chunkymandarincoulis · 06/06/2022 14:53

"Well at least I'm not a boring stick-in-the-mud".

Kellykukoo · 06/06/2022 14:54

You need to find actual friends who accept you just as you are. If you speak up each time you get an unwelcome comment directed your way, the comments might stop but be prepared for them to start whispering about how they now have to walk on eggshells around you. You can't win this one.

whiteroseredrose · 06/06/2022 14:57

It would irritate me because of the tone.

Why is it of any concern to them?

Three homes in as many years is a lot - but so what?

Until this house I'd never lived anywhere for more than 3 years. Even as a child.

You clearly have a more dynamic, less staid life than them.

And how bored must they be to have nothing better to think about.

SailingNotSurfing · 06/06/2022 15:13

They sound hugely irritating and it doesn't sound as if they bring any joy to your life. Bin them and find some new friends.

rainbowandglitter · 06/06/2022 15:24

This all sounds so familiar. You either posted this recently or someone else has the same issue.

goldfinchonthelawn · 06/06/2022 15:29

Next time they say 'Oh I can't keep up ...' reply, 'Yes, I know. You said.' Or if they say, "you;re so weird,' reply 'So you keep telling me.'

But really, I'd get new friends who can handle change. They sound small-minded.

PurassicJark · 06/06/2022 16:22

Everytime they mention it, yawn loudly and go 'god you're so boring, is this all you can talk about? Glad I have a more interesting life that can provide you with entertainment you clearly need it'.

Or better yet, ditch them. They are shite people and very boring.

Thepeopleversuswork · 06/06/2022 16:25

They sound extremely small minded and a bit thick tbh.

There was a similar thread on here the other day from a woman whose friend was incredulous that she'd once driven to the seaside and back on her own with her baby and kept going on about how weird it was.

I just think there are some people who can't process anything that isn't totally normative. When anyone else does something in anyway not routine they feel threatened by it and have to turn it into a joke.

I would ignore them but honestly they sound like twats and I'd move on.
