To consider Malvern schools

Posting here for traffic really. Possibly moving to Malvern and wanted some info on the independent schools there. DD is 12 (yr8) and very academic. Musical and likes drama, less keen on sport but can be persuaded. Any advice or thoughts from local parents would be really appreciated. Thank you everyone!

A friend worked at MSJ and found there were lots of international students who were not at all academic, or at least their English wasn't good enough for them to perform brilliantly academically.

Interesting. I knew MC had a lot of internationals but though MSJ less so. Difficult to perform without the language!

I have really bad experience with MSJ. It is a traditional school which is somehow is outdated in educating young people. If your child can follow strict rules, then it is a good school.
A good school is if it can accept a so-called bad or academically weak pupil, through education (not punishment), the outcome is the pupil has improved. If the school only accepts pupils who are academically strong and behave well, and deny those who is struggling. Then I don't see how good the school is.

If it were me, and I could afford private school fees, I'd choose King's Worcester over MSJ for your DD. Ticks the academics and music boxes and is only 8 mins on the train from Malvern.

When we lived in Malvern our daughter went to RGS. There isn't much difference between RGS or Kings both academic and both are an easy train ride from Malvern Link or Great Malvern Station. They did have an emphasis of using ipads at RGS I'm not sure if this is still the case and wasn't popular with everyone. I'd highly recommend you and your child go round both and see which one feels right for you. Our daughter got offered a place at both but felt RGS was more her. Good luck and enjoy Malvern - it is a fabulous place to live

Send your kid to the local comp and stop contributing to social inequality.

Thanks for this starting to think that way

Uncalled for, asking for help, political comment not required

RGS and King's were our top two choices (we're moving, sadly, from Great Malvern). Not really anything between them, academically. I know lots of Malvernites whose kids go to both, and not heard a bad word about either of them.
