5 week old has already had 900 ml of formula today - what is happening

My baby girl has bad reflux. So I took her to a private paediatrician yesterday.

He suggested infant gaviscon and anti reflux aptimil. I've been giving this since then. Usually my baby has 60 ml or less and some days will go less than two hours between feeds and need 17 feeds.

Ever since I've started the new milk, she's been chugging down 120 ml every feed ??? I'm shocked and a bit worried why this has happened ?

I've also given some feeds of the other formula I used before and she's chugged down 120 for those too on some feeds, but her usual 60 ml on other feeds.

I'm a bit worried. The doctor reckoned that she was spitting up so much and had such bad reflux because I was feeding her too often, but that the total amount was actually ok over 24 hours ( around 600 ml or so ). I'm really confused now what's happening. Can someone help ?

@Mysa74 yeah I plotted it and it's still spot on 50th centile, so I'm not sure why the doctor said she's gained too much weight. Perhaps since the last weigh in, rather than overall.

It sounds like you're doing fine. It's almost impossible to overfeed them anyway, whether BF or FF.

If she's still on the 50th and eating happily I wouldn't worry at all. It sounds like the gaviscon is doing its job and she's just more comfortable. There's generally a growth spurt at 4 weeks and another major sleep/eat change at 4 months so enjoy her before the 4 month one hits, lol.

I remember from my first ! I was just looking at the stats in my app. My First was a dream from around 6-7 weeks until 16 weeks. Would sleep 8-7 etc.

I remember the shock of the 4 month regression !

I do too... I friend had a baby 3 weeks after I had my second. Both were little angels really. Bit mine had naps slightly later in the day and she was always very smug as she was always 15 minutes early for everything and I scraped 8n bang on time. Never late but never early. She was convinced it was because of her expert first time parenting and was fully expecting everything to stay the same as she was "following the book". Boy did she get a shock when the 4 month sleep regression hit... We laugh about it now, babies don't read books, 🤣
