Do Aldi reed diffusers work?

A friend of mine has a HUGE living room, and uses an Aldi reed diffuser in there. It's the No 3 Pomegranate one. I can always smell it when I visit her home - in a good way! - and thought I'd buy myself a couple.
I set them up at home, with the maximum number of reeds in, and flipped them over a couple of times to saturate the reeds.
I can smell absolutely nothing. If I get up close to it, I can just about catch a waft. I had family over yesterday, and they couldn't smell them either.
I could understand maybe getting one duff reed diffuser, but surely not two?!
Has anyone else used these? Maybe it's something to do with my flat Confused

I've had them for about a week now, so it's not because they're new.

Have you turned over the reeds. I use the lime basil one and I can always smell it

Magnolia08 · 02/06/2022 17:07

I've found the same op, can never seem to smell them in my house 🤷‍♀️

Ragruggers · 02/06/2022 17:09

You do know they are toxic take great care if anyone has lung issues.Better to open the window.

Blossomtoes · 02/06/2022 17:21

I like them. The Lime, Mandarin and Basil is my favourite.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 02/06/2022 17:24

I can't smell them either. I bet they're mainly water, for that price. The candles have a good scent though.

Coastalcreeksider · 02/06/2022 17:24

I've got one in the bathroom, I can't smell it unless I actually pick it up and sniff it.

They used to be lovely and fragrant but recently, not so much.

Shame as current one is sage and Sea salt and it's really nice.

ChimChimeny · 02/06/2022 17:24

They work here but I only use one in the toilet so you can't really get a smaller room 😆

MadMadMadamMim · 02/06/2022 17:25

I think they are fabulous. I love the Lime and Basil one and can smell it the minute I walk into our bedroom.

mycatisannoying · 02/06/2022 17:33

So weird that I would smell it as soon as I enter my friend's lounge, which as I said is a really big space. And yet can't smell the same one in my much smaller lounge and hall.
Yes, I have turned over the reeds several times now. Can't smell a thing and it's annoying!

Maybe it's just a duff one or your DF has about 5 which are strategically hidden 😁

I can smell mine. I have no 14 in the living room and the purple one (can't remember what it is...something and oud?) In the bedroom. The fresher ones are in the bathroom and hallways

ThreeKneeRepeater · 02/06/2022 17:41

I’ve got a Pomegranate one that was so strong I had to put it in a cupboard. I can still smell the bastard.

Sounds like my friend's one Grin
I mean, a bit of balance would be good!

I have found you become immune to the smell in your own home but notice them if you go to other peoples- especially if they have heat on more than you do

Yes, I thought I may have become nose blind, but no one else can smell them either.

They do seem to be really variable. We have fig and cassis in the bedroom and can always smell it. Often from outsode the room. Velvet rose was so strong I had to move it into the spare bedroom. Not a small room. Both are very 'dry' smells.

Fruity or sweet ones seem to be less strong.

One my mum bought me for Christmas you can only smell if you pick it up, it's in our very small bathroom, but it also doesn't seem to be evaporating at all, given it is now June and it is still half left. 🤔

DinkBoo · 02/06/2022 18:14

(our bedroom is better ventilated, I seem to remember reading somewhere you should make sure they are situated somewhere with decent air flow for scent distribution. That could be making a difference...?)
