To ask for a raise?

When is the best time to ask for a raise?

started new job in Jan - part time as after maternity decided i need to be home more. It is a step down for me but didnt have much choice and besides much much lower salary i cant really complain.
i was initially hired for a different position (even lower than the current one), but before I joined, someone resigned, so they offered me a role and hired a junior with barely any experience to do the first job. At that point they didnt offer more money (I asked as it is different role and to my understanding little harder than the first one).
In April whole company got 3% increase (my small part time salary barely had any impact)
within the last 5 months i picked up some more duties and so far i believe i manage it well, no complains from seniors or my manager. I am eager to get even more on my plate which I constantly ask for (i sometimes get my job done and have free time which they know about).
aibu to ask for a raise after 5 months? When is the best time? I dont want to get a £1k for the sake of it, just because i asked and to make me happy and then wait God knows how long to be able to ask again but also I dont feel like waiting till next April either!

Ask when you feel like it, they can only say no and if you're talking on more it's good to flag that up when asking.

I run a business and welcome my open chats about money and salary with the team. I don't want to loose any of them so need to check they are happy every 6 months I do a salary review.

Ask..
Compare your original job description, experinece and salary to your current job description maybe benchmarking to other roles in the organisation and request a formal reappraisal of your role and salary. If they say no.. ask when this can happen and ask them what should happen to the additional tasks in the meantime.. (well maybe not the last bit..)

I just got my annual pay rise and it was only by £1K which is so disappointing. It’s an internal role and they started me on the lowest possible salary they could. Did a comparison to the average wage for that role and I’m actually getting £6K less!

I have set quarterly targets so I need to achieve those and then complete my exams. Then I’ll put a case forward. As long as you have evidence and can demonstrate it then go for it.

In my company we have appraisals in Feb/March and all raises / bonus are in April. The money has already been allocated and budgeted before the appraisals. The best bit of advice I received was to let the boss know 6 months before that come appraisal time I would be asking for a pay rise based on x and y so they had time to slide it into their budget. Start asking now about your job change and extra duties.
