To take my children to gp?

We were in a car accident today. Hit from behind by another driver. It's clearly their fault and they have been lovely and helpful afterwards. I feel sorry for them as clearly very sorry and shaken. They did hit really hard and there's significant damage to the front of their car and back of mine.

I have pain in my back this evening. So roughly 10 hours after the accident. I don't think it's whiplash as a Google tells me that's usually restricted to the neck? So possibly more likely due to picking my kids up? So probably not accident related.

But it's sent me into panic mode. One of my children has complex special needs including a heart condition. With the bank holiday weekend coming up I really want to ask the gp to check them over. They seem fine but even so I just want to be extra safe. None have complained of any pain.

AIBU? Is this just wasting doctors time to have them checked?

Take them to get checked over :) it will ease your mind is not unreasonable 💐

Thanks @TeaAndChoccie. Do you think you'd take your kids if you were in my position? (That is, if you have kids)

Take them. Also check any car seats, you may need to replace them. Inform your insurance company of any symptoms any of you may have. Pain often appears 24 hours later when the adrenalinh disappears.
That said, GPs are usually ill informed aboutback injuries and if you have back pain after an accident you should see a physio or osteopath.

Car seats will 100% need replacing, you cannot see all potentially weaknesses after an accident and manufacturings will not consider them safe. Car insurance is normally pretty straight forward (& quick) about them.

I would also take my children to be checked over in the situation you've described with complex needs especially with the long weekend coming up. Better a GP than potentially worrying and working yourself up and ending up in A&E with any concerns. I'd also discuss your back pain as some injuries can have delayed presentation.

Thank you all. I'll ring the gp in the morning and make an appointment.

Definitely get them checked out. Your insurance company will ask about any injuries when you make the claim and it's best to show you've seen a medic (I don't mean for 'had a car crash & not your fault' type claims).

Hi
Yeah take them tomorrow to be checked and yourself.
If your doctors does it then fill in the online form now so they'll call you back in the morning to arrange an appointment.

Someone crashed into my mums car the other day whilst it was parked. Just bumper and rear light damage and she got £300 from his insurance company for the car seats no questions asked. I'd replace them depending on childrens ages. Sorry about your car. Hope you're ok. Hopefully a quick doctors visit tomorrow will put your mind at ease. If no luck with GP I'd go to minor injuries x
