To get constipated every time I go away?

It's really unreasonable right? How can I not get constipated? It really ruins a holiday. Help.

@ProfessorFusspot that really does preclude so many of my usual holiday activities though. Just looking fondly back to my Canaries holiday in Feb where I sat down at a restaurant and immediately ordered 3 different kinds of squid

Habits change on holiday, different foods, more alcohol. To me it’s the opposite, although I drink more, I probably eat more varied food. I do eat all my veg and try and drink a lot of water.

Stevienickssnickers · 31/05/2022 06:58

Yes, I always think it's less water, less veg, more treat food, more booze combo. My DH never seems to be affected though and continues his regular as clockwork trip to the loo.

Moithered · 31/05/2022 07:00

It's the whole 'pooing in a strange place' vibe! Will the loo flush first time? Will it all flush away first time? How thin are the walls in the place you are staying - will anyone hear me?
I feel your pain OP!

AnyFucker · 31/05/2022 07:02

I always get this. On a weeks holiday I might not “go” at all

I have never worried about it

InChocolateWeTrust · 31/05/2022 07:08

This is terrifically common. While obv there can be dietary factors isnt it obvious an element is psychological?

ginislife · 31/05/2022 07:10

God yes !! Madeira, New Year 2000, I didn't go for 2 whole weeks !! The second I stepped over my front door when I got home I needed the bathroom. I started taking senna regularly after that if I went on holiday but in recent years I've been ok and can go regularly. Weird

8 prunes a day (the nicer ones) help. As does a glass of prune juice in the morning. Figs are very good. Plenty of water.

OK prunes don't taste very nice but it's that or pain!

Yep, happens to me every time I go away abroad! Doesn't make a huge difference whether I fly or cruise (I do both), but perhaps a bit worse when I fly.
I can easily go a week or more without doing a "proper" poo. Might do a few "rabbit droppings" but not my usual poo!
