Online therapy reminder

Dd has one to one therapy once a week via zoom. It costs £65 for 50 mins, paid in advance for the month. Because it's half term we are out of routine and completely forgot. Therapist has my email and number and did not attempt to contact us. She sent an email nine hours before the session with the zoom link.

I am self-employed and run online sessions (not therapy, and much cheaper!) and if someone doesn't turn up, particularly for a one to one session, I would always send an email or text after five / ten minutes to check if they are coming.

While I accept it was our responsibility to remember, I don't think I'm being unreasonable to expect her to make some attempt to contact us when we didn't turn up considering how much we've paid (and she won't refund).

Isn’t the zoom link a reminder?

Notanotherwindow · 30/05/2022 19:12

YABU. She isnt your P.A. it's up to you to remember your own appointments.

pjmasksitsthepjmasks · 30/05/2022 19:12

That one is on you unfortunately. You should have set a reminder in your phone.

Pumpkintopf · 30/05/2022 19:14

She did email you though, with the link.

I wouldn't expect her to refund in these circumstances, it's not like she could fill the time.

LtMoose · 30/05/2022 19:15

Well yeah, ultimately it's on you, but she could have just sent you a text after 10 mins, I would be a bit peeved too.

BritInUS1 · 30/05/2022 19:16

Why should she refund? It's not her fault you are unorganised

She sent you the Zoom link, so it's not like she wasn't in touch

She sent you a reminder 9 hours before hand!! Put it in your phone calender to remind you. Does the dentist give you a ring to remind you if you're late?!

Why? It's really rude to not have set your own reminder and made sure you were there. If you don't have the respect to be on time why should she chase you?

LovePoppy · 30/05/2022 19:21

why do you think its her job to be your PA?

You’re right, it IS your responsibility to remember something you’ve booked and paid for. Also, you DID get a reminder 9 hours beforehand in the form of an email. You’re clutching at straws to shift the blame away from yourself OP.

cornflakedreams · 30/05/2022 19:27

That's completely your fault.

WTF475878237NC · 30/05/2022 19:34

I'm afraid I would have to agree with others above. You did get a reminder.

Lilbunnyfufu · 30/05/2022 19:56

The zoom link was your reminder from her.
You need to set your own reminders.

LtMoose · 30/05/2022 20:06

@Woonoodle

Is it rude? The OP is paying the therapist, not the other way round. People are human, people make mistakes, the therapist is being paid for that time anyway, she can sit there for an hour waiting for the who had clearly forgotten, or send a quick text to see what's happening. I agree the OP shouldn't get a refund, but equally it wouldn't have hard to send a text.

PandaOrLion · 30/05/2022 20:20

What is in your contract? I’m a therapist and contract that I will contact a client after 5 minutes of a missed session, but I don’t after that. I can manage a 45 minute piece of work with a client but can’t ethically work for 30 minutes unless that is what we contracted.

I would have expected the client (who I have a contract with) to let me know if they couldn’t attend in advance though. If that doesn’t happen then the session is still charged for.

Ridingoutthewaves · 30/05/2022 20:37

Why do you pay in advance for therapy? I have never ever had to do that. Also do you need to pay so much? Is the therapist very specialist? Not what you asked but perhaps worth considering.

1idea · 30/05/2022 20:39

I would expect some attempt to contact either at the time or following the appointment as part of a welfare/safeguarding check.

frogswimming · 30/05/2022 20:53

Isn't the zoom invite a reminder in itself?

SofiaSoFar · 30/05/2022 20:55

Of course she won't refund you. You took the slot so she couldn't sell it to anyone else.

WooNoodle · 30/05/2022 21:00

Why on earth would she refund you?

historygeek · 30/05/2022 21:35

If it was a face to face appointment would you expect her to knock on your door?!
Any zoom links I accept automatically add yo my calendar. Could you set something like that up?

savehannah · 31/05/2022 08:24

Just to be clear I wasn't implying she should refund me. I was stating that she does not offer refunds and I am aware of this.

As a self-employed person I don't offer refunds either but I do send a message out to establish if someone has forgotten or is absent for another reason if they don't turn up, especially to a one-to-one session.

@historygeek no, similarly, if it was a face to face appointment I don't think a text or email to see if you are on your way or not coming would be amiss.

10HailMarys · 31/05/2022 09:46

YABU. She sent you the Zoom link beforehand. That was your reminder. If you forgot, that's entirely your problem and it's not for her to chase you. You made a mistake, just accept it and move on.

WTF475878237NC · 31/05/2022 12:00

Also do you need to pay so much? Is the therapist very specialist?

^ therapy with a clinical psychologist can be over £100 ph so it definitely depends on how qualified the person is too (eg someone with an online certificate in counselling will be cheaper as have less training in depth and breadth).
