London tube strike 6th June 2022

Posted in chat but reposting for traffic. Although AIBU that it's bloody unfair that this will be our first night away in years, the only night planned, and they pick that day to strike!

I'm from up north arriving at kings cross in the morning 6th June. I need to get to the O2 (going to see Queen) and am panicking now about how to get there. Looks like there will be no tube services due to a one day strike.
Having no experience of living and travelling in London I don't know whether I should be worried or not.

Can someone advise? Please

Ah yes we were planning a trip to liberty which obv us now cancelled.

Thank you!

If you still want to/have time to go to Liberty get the #73 or 390 bus from outside Kings X - you want opposite side of the road to the station to make sure you go the right way. Take it to Great Tichfield St/Oxford Circus Station. It’s right at the end of the line so when they say ‘this bus terminates here’ get off and Liberty is a two min walk from there down Argyll St

You could then walk to Embankment and get the clipper from there

As I said above best to get Citymapper to check routes live

Dh and I are going to the same concert. I’m hoping the tube strike will be cancelled but if not I think we might get the clipper.

We will abandon sightseeing plans and just head for the O2 though.

@supadupapupascupa Uber/Thames clipper is normally extra busy if there is a tube strike plus you would still need to get from KX to the river to pick one up. I would say Thameslink train to Greenwich (about 30min) and then taxi to North Greenwich is the easiest. You can get a clipper from Greenwich (walk from Greenwich station to the Cutty Sark, 10 min walk. Not the bus as it goes round the houses and not as nice as walking through Greenwich and getting the boat 😀

DLR is often still open with strikes, so you could get the overground to stratford, DLR then cable car

Someone will offer to fill their greedy hands with silver - I am sick of it holding travellers to ransom every so often one recent strike was on the day they put the fares up. Not everyone can work from home - quite a few commuters are teachers and NHS staff who are reluctant to strike and have not had a pay rise above 1% for years.

Download citymapper and it will literally talk you through every step of the journey including walking between stops etc as well as timings and cost for each route (you can also filter by mode of transport)
Ignore those who say to use tfl journey planner. Citymapper all the way.
Have a great birthday

OP I just read this back and should say the end of the line comment is for the #73 only. Just listen out for Great Tichfield St on either bus and you will be fine. Have a great trip

Wouldn't be much point to a strike if it didn't inconvenience travellers.

Reminds me of the comment I saw on here once - why can't teachers strike in the school holidays? Lol.

I suggested that but with travel chaos who knows how long a taxi journey might take (and cost)

What's the best way of figuring a journey out? Honestly haven't a clue. Never even used an Uber!! How's that done?

It was meant to be so easy!!! KX then jubillee line.......

Just go to the TFL website and it will plan a journey for you
But you have options to use London Overground services, the docklands light railway, and if feeling adventurous (or daft in my opinion!), you can do some of the journey on the cable car...
So yes, it will be more challenging, but will def be more interesting than sitting underground!

supadupapupascupa · 06/06/2022 14:09

Update. We walked from kings cross down to Covent Garden for lunch, then walked down to embankment where we are now sitting aboard the Uber Clipper. THANK YOU again for all your help!!! X

We got the train to London Bridge and walked along the Thames to North Greenwich. It was a great walk but god, was I knackered by the time we arrived at the hotel🤣 Hope you enjoyed Queen as much as I did.

supadupapupascupa · 07/06/2022 19:12

We are just looking at the videos now.... oh my god it was AWESOME. Made it to liberty today and I'm feeling sooooo tired x
