Babysitter giving baby two feeds from one bottle

We went to a wedding last night. We hired a babysitter through the (well respected) Hotel. She came highly qualified and with 40 years experience and we were allowed to use a friend's room for her to be in during the festivities.

She sent us messages about 725 and 915 to say she'd had her formula and when I packed up I saw two empty formula bottles in the bin.

When I got home I noticed there was only one dirty bottle. I'd given her five sterile ones just in case though she should have had two feeds max in that time

Should I be worried.

When we got home I gave her another feed which she vomited everywhere (which she rarely does).,

Do I need to be worried about ecoli or aibu?

I do this all the time. Didn't know it was a problem. Oops

If they’re so good, why are they just working in a hotel looking after babies of parents staying there? I would be very wary of hotel babysitters.
Did you meet with her prior to her having the baby and discuss your expectations? If so, and your wishes have been ignored, I would complain.

That's not the level of care I'd expect from a professional babysitter and I'd certainly let the hotel know for future reference. Because that might not be the only and smallest risk she's taking with other peoples babies.

I never ever re-used a bottle before it was washed and sterilised. I'm shocked how many here excuse it.

Could she have used 2 of the bottles and washed and rinsed/washed the first one under a tap and just left the second bottle uncleaned?

You did t know using a dirty milk bottle to give a fresh feed was a problem?

But bacteria from babies mouth is already in babies mouth...?? So that'll not make her sick will it? It doesn't magically become poison on leaving the body!!!

Imaginary · 30/05/2022 13:48

It's not ideal, but the baby will be fine.

Bacteria in the mouth is cleared out constantly by saliva. Bacteria on a used teat multiplies and can get to dangerous levels if left for more than an hour.

I can guarantee you that the nannies won’t be as good as you think op. Sounds like maybe if she’s older, she’s not up to date on current practises re bottles. LO will be fine, but keep an eye just in case.

LittleBearPad · 30/05/2022 13:58

She’ll be fine.

Bells3032 · 30/05/2022 15:00

Thanks all. Little one seems fine today. A tiny bit sick this morning but latest feed all kept down and she seems bright happy and alert.

I did tot up how many feeds she had yesterday - as we were rushing around I just fed her when convenient rather than waiting til she signalled and realised we gave her 7 bottles which she finished rather than the usual 5. Oooops. So hopefully was just due to the the overfeeding.

Thanks for all sharing your experiences. Think I was being a bit unreasonable after a bit too much sleep deprivation.

Thank you all.

No expert on these things but I've had 2 premmies and on occasion in a sleep deprived state I've done this with no ill effects. Not saying it's ideal or to be done regularly but as a slip up chances are baby will be fine.
