To think I might have cervical cancer?

Posting here for traffic after very little response in chat. I hope that’s okay.

I have always had my smears and have never had any abnormal results, but recently started experiencing some changes to my cycle.

firstly, I had bleeding after sex mid cycle. I didn’t worry too much as I’d heard of this happening on a rare occasion to some friends. This was a few months ago.

Ever since, I have had some strange bleeding at the time of my periods. Basically, I’m getting a couple of days of spotting before my period really starts. It’s a heavy period but always has been.

Other than that, I’ve been getting loads of discharge. Way more than normal. To the point I’ve had to rush to the bathroom and am contemplating wearing pads to deal with it.

im really worried… awaiting an appointment with the nurse. Has anyone been in this situation? If so, what was the outcome? I’m a 33 year old mum to two young kids. My last smear was 2 years ago. Feeling really frightened. 😞

@TinkyWinky55
No, the (very infrequent) bleeding was the ONLY symptom. I hadn’t had a period for two years (I’m in mid-50’s) so put it down to the menopause (thinning of vaginal walls) and dithered over going to the GP, in fact when I did go it was to ask about estrogen cream and when I mentioned the bleeding the GP did an examination and that’s when she referred me to gynae.
It’s no good worrying about what your symptoms “might” be, because cervical cancer can be very aggressive and can grow quickly.
If you are just having hormone changes a test can check for that but you must go to the doctor.
Please don’t wait. At least put your mind at rest.

Thanks for your reply @Skynorth. I’ve seen the nurse and am booked in to see the GP, so I’m taking the right steps to get to the bottom of this. I’m hoping it’s nothing serious but will come back to this thread when I have some answers. Wishing you all the best with your treatment.

I had this - it got to the point where I was more or less bleeding all the time - I had uterine polyps. I also had a cervical erosion and the consultant said it was probably that that was causing the bleeding even more than the polyps. Both were removed ten years ago, no problems since.

Highly unlikely to be cervical cancer, especially if you are up to date with your smears - they detect cell changes way before cancer so even with the recent changes only to screen if you have HPV, they'd probably have noticed at the smear before.

Hi @TinkyWinky55 hope you’re well just wondered if you have any updates on this?

I randomly had blood in my urine back in may and have had it again recently. Also had changes to my period where I’ve thought I was starting my period but turned out to be just spotting or blood when I was wiping. Slightly worried!

Thrush can cause issues with bleeding after sex , I had it when I was pregnant. You're doing the right thing seeing your GP though. It could also be the start of Peru menopause.

Well done for booking the appointment. You're doing absolutely the right thing. Tell the nurse or doc you're worried about it and she might be able to give you an dea.
