To get a new sofa and expect it to survive

I would like to get a new sofa- my current one is 12+ years, looks awful and is very uncomfortable. But I have 2 young primary school aged children. They are autistic with ADHD so a new family sofa needs to survive being climbed on and sat on in unconventional ways as well as occasional spills. They are likely to damage it at some point but AIBU to want one anyway. I want a living room to be proud of, a comfy place to sit after a crazy day. I've put off doing it for years but I'm about to give in and the main thing stopping me is I haven't found one I love which looks practical.

Please give me any recommendations.. or ones to avoid. Or talk me out of it!

We had cheap leather/fake leather from Argos and the like when the DC were small. I hated the feel of them and we now have expensive fabric sofas, the DC are older now and we have a no food on sofa rule

Our sofa is leather, so it can be wiped clean. You could look for ones with washable covers. We also have throws on our sofas (we have a cat). The throws aren't glamorous, but we can take them off if we want to smarten up the room.

IKEA have proved the most hardwearing for us. We have a three seater Stocksund with removable covers - changes between blue and red when it needs a wash. Was originally pink but got hair dye on it so thought it was wrecked. I though I may was well try dying it with Dylon red and it came out good as new. The sofa itself hasnt sagged, lost comfort or shape at all.

Look at living proof sofas

Similar household here - kids with ASD and ADHD. We had a fabric sofa for ages and it really went through the wars. When it was time to change, we went for a leather one & it's been great. Such a relief to be able to wipe clean. I think it's worth saving a while & getting a good quality one - hardwood frame and real leather. I would advise against the recliner types - they don't really stand up to heavy wear as the frames go wonky.

I had the same leather sofa for about 12 years , should have replaced it years ago but really couldn't justify the price of a new one . But this weekend I have got a bargain second hand one at £150 it's lovely , my lounge looks so much better

My ektorp is 23 years old. Indestructible. Been through a few cover changes but mainly because I've fancied a change not because they've worn out.

Thank you all. I will check out the ikea ones.
I like the idea of getting leather but terrified they'll damage it which would be even more costly!
