I have seen several stories in the news which are clearly lifted from here.

What's the AIBU? 🤔

Inklingpot · 29/05/2022 07:42

Hardly new, is it. And yes, what’s the AIBU?

Testina · 29/05/2022 07:46

It’s not unreasonable (or at all unusual) for other companies to trawl MN for their click bait.

It’s low rent, for sure - but blame the people who want to read it, not the contributor (can’t say journalist).

It happens too often for there to be any point in posting individual links.

AIBU:

In not wanting lazy journalists to use stories from web forums.

I would really like journalists to start asking sensible questions of the narrative put out by the government, and to actually do a bit of investigating into the stories they put out.

Well maybe don’t pick The Mirror as your online news source?

The ones (websites and content providers) who do this are really not neglecting their proper journalistic role of holding government accountable, any more than is the editor of Hello! or the person writing the quiz for Cosmo. It’s a different animal.

Sparklingbrook · 29/05/2022 12:19

This has been the case forever. Don’t know why anyone’s surprised.
Stuff posted on the internet gets shared on the internet. 🤷‍♀️

balalake · 29/05/2022 12:20

The Daily Mirror has been one of the few to actually question the government.

MN being trawled for stories is not new. I was wondering whether to invent something and see if it could get as far as being covered in the Paper that Supported the Blackshirts (aka Daily Fail).

MelonsMelonsMelons · 29/05/2022 12:51

I’m not sure why you’d go to the Mirror or any tabloid expecting serious investigative journalism. They’ll do a bit but it’s always going to be padded out with celebrity tittle-tattle and easy stories plucked from social media.

Inklingpot · 29/05/2022 12:55

It’s surprising how many posters on here seem to think that prefacing their post with a disclaimer that they don’t give the media permission to use their post, or something puerile like ‘fuck off Daily Mail’ will prevent their posts being lifted.

I don't think you understand that anything from here can be and is run by the press. It's been happening for years. What's wrong with it?
