To not be able to decide between Leeds or Liverpool

I’m mainly posting in here for traffic! Normally just a browser on this site.

I’m going to go to university in September and have to make my choice before the 7th of June. I really can’t decide between Liverpool or Leeds as my firm choice. Realistically I am doing well in my A level exams and will probably be able to get into both so can choose either to firm.

I’ve just come back from Leeds today after visiting Liverpool last week and my initial feelings of love for Liverpool were conflicted by me loving Leeds too and realising how good the city is.

I’m from Manchester and am going to be studying English literature. Both unis are good for English lit and I’ve been to both open days and liked them equally. The courses are similar with varied options and mandatory early English and Renaissance literature for both so I’d be happy going to either Uni based on that.

my real thing I’m going to narrow it down to now is if I want to spend 3 years in Leeds or Liverpool! It would be really interesting to get advice from people who have lived in either city or have experience of both about what they prefer and why. Or if your dc have tried to decide between either of these unis and what they ended up going with.

I have a good instinct gut feeling about both of them but I’d hate to firm Leeds for instance just because it’s slightly higher for English but then do well (AAB instead of Liverpool’s ABB) and not be able to get to Liverpool and regret it.

I mean I asked my dad who came with me to both what he preferred and he said he ‘felt happier in Liverpool and just loved it for some reason’, which I also felt, but then I felt like that in Leeds too and loved the shopping and there was so much going on, like in Manchester.

I'd stay in Manchester, I think its a better uni overall but to answer you question both cities are amazing. My brother went to Liverpool (we are from Manchester) and he loved it, the whole vibe of the city, the people and would happily move back there now. I'd personally choose Leeds over it any day of the week. It's a much more beautiful city in my opinion and in all the times I've visited I feel very at home tgere its more diverse. I worked in Liverpool and it is a great city too though. I don't think you'd be missing out going to either, the nightlife is better in Liverpool I'd say and it is that bit closer to home. Depends what is important to you? How comparable are living costs and what do you want to do with an English Lit degree, what do their graduates end up doing after? Unis normally publish what their leavers end up doing, so for example x % go on to do further study etc.

Good luck for you exams, it's exciting times for you ahead!

Liverpool hands down for me!

I prefer Liverpool but Leeds uni may look better on your CV?

My daughter loves it at Liverpool. Think something like 25% of the population are students. Loads to do, lots of free stuff, easy to drive to and get around.
If both are totally new cities to you go with your gut. When I went to uni, it was the place that ultimately decided me, I wanted to be part of a city.
