Posted early, sorry for posting again but I have a new worry now!!

So took dd5 to ooh Gp this morning as she has a really high temp and tummy pain. They did a urine dip stick thing and said it showed signs of another uti so have prescribed antibiotics. Have been told to only take calpol, no ibuprofen, and call back if she gets any worse.

Since then she has literally slept almost all day, asked to be carried everywhere as she is too tired to stand or walk. Her temp is still at 39.8 and only comes down to about 38.8 with calpol. She now says she feels sick and is crying with the stomach pain. She is also not drinking or eating anything as she says it hurts her tummy. She has done 3 wees today though. Is this normal for a uti or should I be getting her seen again?

Seems normal. Dd had one at a few months old and they scanned her kidneys to check for reflux. As long as your dd is taking fluids(try ice lollies) and weeing it will take a while for the abs to work, and those in themselves may upset her tummy,

Honestly… I’d take her to get seen again or call 111? My lg has UTIs often due to a kidney issue. She can be grumbly n have temps but they’ve not been as high as that, what I always say to myself is if I’m worried enough to ask someone’s opinion whether it’s family or mumsnet, then I need to ask someone medical (gp,111 or a&e) when it comes to kids I reckon it’s a case of I’d rather ask or do something and it be nothing than not and it be something (from a love midewife when I was pregnant)

Amymamabear89 · 28/05/2022 17:33

just to say that can obviously be normal as every kids different but as the person who knows her best if you’re still worried there’s no harm in asking x

I'd call back and just get double checked, my daughter had loads of uti's and this sounds quite extreme. The antibiotics normally kick in really quickly so I'd squeeze in as many doses as possible even if it means night time doses.

Better to get checked out as they can escalate quite quickly

Hope she feels better soon

My son was extremely ill with a UTJ that was drug resistant. It took 5 days to find an antibiotic that worked. Have they sent the urine off? And has it come back?

It was only sent off this morning so I don't think they would be back yet

My DD has had several UTIs, she’s 10. We’ve had to have words with teachers to get them to remind her to drink water which she’s not good at remembering to do, she’s awaiting ASD diagnosis. TBH I’ve always had similar issues, I went through childhood, teens & 20s with regular UTIs. It wasn’t until my early 30s that I finally managed to improve my hydration habits but even so I will often forget, for example if I’m I’ll or busy I just don’t think about it. I try to constantly have a drink on the go but I drive DH crazy with leaving my tea or coffee to go cold & half finished cups of juice poured away because they’ve been left out so long they’ve got dust floating on the top. Lidded bottles & cups all the way for me now… Blush

I do think some people are just wired that way & fail to recognise thirst as easily. It’s not good.

I just realised DH made me a cup of coffee this morning. It’s still half full. That’s all I’ve had today.

obsessedwithsleep · 28/05/2022 17:49

Take her back. I really don't want to alarm you the primary cause of sepsis (at least in adults) is untreated UTIs and they can be drug resistant. If you're worried, get her seen again.

londonrach · 28/05/2022 17:52

Take her back. DD had UTI a few weeks ago and took two trips to a&e to get right antibiotics...very complicated why we had to go to a&e but the main reason was refused to see her and told us to go to a&e.....

Sorry to hear your dd had to go through that. Was she really poorly with it? And how soon after taking the right antibiotics did she start to improve?

She's just been sick everywhere and her temp is now at 40.9 so I'm going to ring 111 again

Honestly I'd take straight to a and e.

feellikeanalien · 28/05/2022 18:06

Take her to A&E OP. DD was hospitalised with a UTI when she was about 4 or 5 and had to have antibiotics on a UV drip. I'm not trying to be alarmist but I think with something like this it's better to be safe than sorry.

feellikeanalien · 28/05/2022 18:09

Sorry should be IV.

ohnoohnoo · 28/05/2022 18:10

They are getting someone to call us back asap to see if we need to go to a&e ourselves or if they need to send an ambulance. The hospital is 45 mins away so that's why we are waiting to see what is best as I don't want her to get more unwell in the car and not have anyone to help us

obsessedwithsleep · 28/05/2022 18:11

Oh gosh, poor you. I hope she's OK. You're definitely doing the right thing and she'll be in good hands.

EatSleepReplete · 28/05/2022 19:03

Poor thing, I hope they call you back really quickly.
