Is Midnight too late for a 15 year old at a party.

Dd is 15 and in year 10, she has been invited to a party tomorrow and I offered to pick her up at 11, she believes I have ruined her life as everyone else will walk home at midnight. I feel midnight is too late and want to pick her up as she would have to walk back on her own. Please advise me if you would let her stay until midnight?

I'd compromise at 11.30 and must be picked up. I agree 12 is a bit late and it means it not getting to bed until late etc.

I think it’s a bit late but would let them without saying anything about it. I don’t believe they are all walking home, and I would collect them and even offer to take others home, I’ve been that girl without a lift home and it’s horrible. It isn’t something I’d want to be a regular occurrence at that age, ideally (though few teens are ideal!) wait for a year or two.

Agree yes to occasionally being out 'til midnight for a non-school night, no to walking home. My 15yo was out really late last night from a gig but H met her and her mate at the gates and drove them back.

I wouldn't be picking up my 16 year old at midnight, I'd want to be in bed! I think you're all very nice.

I chuckled at this. When we were 14-18 my mate's mum would always pick us up in the wee small hours. We all used to think Linda was so lovely and kind for doing so. Now I have a 15yo I presume it was motivated by the sheet terror I feel when my teen is out late, despite my knowing it's normal for her age, so I always offer lifts 😁.

12am is fine for her age.

I was never allowed to walk home on my own as a teen at night. My dad always picked me up and if I had any of my friends with me he would always offer to drop them home too (if they were on the way)

I hate driving past girls walking on their own at night. When my DD is of age as long as she doesn't take the piss I'll go with the same approach as my dad. She will never have to walk home on her own. If she ends up out at 3am and hasn't planned a route home and is stuck, she will get a bollocking, but still will never be left to walk home.

12am pick up is fine IMO :)

But isn't that just part of being a parent to teenagers? A bit like waking up in the middle of the night is part of having a newborn.

I've no doubt my mum would have rather been at home with a glass of wine than picking my friends and I up from parties at at midnight, but I'm really glad she did so that I didn't miss out.

I want to be in bed at midnight too, but I'd still go out and pick up my dd rather than have her walk home. My dd is 16, goes out to friends/parties probably once or twice a month. I'm lucky that we do a lift share with another parent/my DH, so I only have to do pick ups about once every two months. But I'd do it every week if it meant she was safe. Isn't it just one of those things you do for your kids if you can?

FlipFlopsMakeMyToesCold · 28/05/2022 09:57

I'd allow midnight on condition I pick her up after.

cigarettesNalcohol · 28/05/2022 09:58

Midnight is absolutely fine for a 15 year old, it's not very late. Just pick her up at 12

Cocopogo · 28/05/2022 10:01

I think 11pm is fine.

Mellowyellow222 · 28/05/2022 10:08

Compromise. She stays out to midnight, you pick her up.

midnight is not late for a party at her age.

decentchap · 28/05/2022 10:23

Personal experience with careful daughter.
Midnight - no problem if SHE thinks its OK , start the process of assessment young. It always was an absolute must and a given, that even if embarrassment caused - always, always, always, pick her up.
2 reasons.
1.Showing off by older driving boys, results in more dead young women than very many other causes.
2 . I have always told my daughter I would collect her from anywhere at any time in any country - security for HER is crucial to enjoying herself.

I wont even state the obvious about over testosteroned young men, I was once one and know well.

Try to remember what you once felt in a completely different world sadly.

ConsuelaHammock · 28/05/2022 10:26

I’d let my daughter stay as long as she wanted but only because I know her. I can’t speak for your daughter.

Glitterspy · 28/05/2022 10:33

When I was 15, parties involved copious amounts of cheap booze, smoking, drugs (not Class As), sex…everything. Our parents just left us all to it (private school, middle class…what were they thinking!?)

Drive her home at 11 or 12, it’s all the same. If they have the same appetite for destruction as we all had at 15, it would make not a jot of difference as we’d all be sucking on joints and Bacardi Breezers by 7.30 anyway.

Don’t let her walk home alone in a state.

Compromise and collect her at 12.

allboysherebutme · 28/05/2022 11:18

I would be happy with 12 but would collect, that's what I would say, we can meet in the middle you can stay until 12 but I will collect you. X

Would collect at midnight, mine think walking is lame, whilst this is annoying in every other part of life- it is useful for parties.
Mine have no issue when someone takes the piss for me picking then up with taking the piss back because they have to walk.

I think midnight is fine but I would insist on collecting. We live rurally so collecting or taxi is the only option here. I’d far rather pick them up and know they get home safely.

Funnily enough the other kids are not at all embarrassed when they are also offered a lift home.

Hallyup89 · 28/05/2022 12:01

Midnight is fine during holidays or weekend, but definitely pick her up.
