Be sick to death of Language Revision, I have had 3 bloody years of this. Actually I know I am being unreasonable; but, I did 3 years of French at a Secondary Modern, and I was crap at that. My DD, goes to a Grammar, and does French, Spanish, German, Latin and Chinease. (To many imo) She is at the stroppy age and if she has a pop that the questions (asked in the original language!!) I have to ask her are pronouced wrongly one more time, well I think I am either going to cry, or lock my self in the shed.
Any tips?

Being a loving caring mother does not mean allowing your children to treat you badly. You are DOING HER A FAVOUR and she is making fun of your pronunciation. Enough already.

cottonflee · 13/01/2008 00:09

Your right Janni, I'll have to put my foot down. The thing is DH works nights, DS is in bed by 8, and it leaves DD and I sitting there (or in my case MNing) so she asks for help and I try and help. But, there was a reason I was told not to do languages for my GCSE's, poor pronunciation was just one!

if you move your child to a shit inner city school - she won't give a shit and all the teachers have hip flasks

cottonflee · 13/01/2008 00:45

Custy, well she goes to a school in Canterbury, which is a city! I'm not complaining, she tries really hard at school, and my paitence. Its just she is so bloody stroppy. DH worked tonight and she asked me to help her, I said I would, but any lip and it was of to bed for her. Well, dd was in bed for 8.30. DH hadn't left for work until 8.
No more, she can do it on her bloody own, or else it will be me hitting the hip flask.

Good luck, Cottonflee. Your DD needs to know you won't be her maidservant and that you are willing to help her if she shows you the respect you so obviously deserve!!

Vacua · 13/01/2008 12:01

why is she doing sooooo many languages?

cottonflee · 13/01/2008 18:02

She went to the school, because it has a nice atmosphere, the problem is it is one of them schools that has an emphasis on something, only this one is languages. She does French, German and Spanish as a full subjects, and Latin and Chinese as half subjects. Next year she is allowed to drop two. I am hoping she drops Chinese, I find it really hard.
We had a long talk this morning about her attitude and her lack of respect for me. I think she got the message.

Tell me about it!!! I am sitting here with my dd and her maths... I only wish it was Latin instead, at least I'm reasonably good at that.

cottonflee · 13/01/2008 20:14

Cory, lets swop, I'm good at maths!

They teach Chinese in state schools? Good God, no wonder you're finding it a struggle!

Anna8888 · 14/01/2008 16:41

Pointless to do so many languages .

Better to do two useful, accessible ones (French and Spanish) and actually end up fluent.
