Honest thoughts on living in Jersey

Anyone on here who has moved to Jersey, what was your honest thoughts about life on the Island. Did you love it or wanted to move back home?

I love visiting Jersey on holiday but wondered whether living there full time would feel different.

I have no idea if this is still the case but I believe it’s quite difficult to be granted to live there

Unless you come over on an employment license or with millions in the bank it’s basically impossible. Have a look at places.je for house prices and gov.je for jobs ( most of the non professional roles will require 5 years residency).

I live in Jersey and love it. But it is an expensive place to live. The primary schools are excellent. There are good fee paying secondary schools. It’s a great place to bring up children and if you’re into beach and water sports it’s fantastic. You have to be careful what you say as so many people know each other!

The restaurants are fantastic and beach cafes too. I’m not sure I’d be so happy living here if we didn’t have money. Like the U.K. it’s virtually impossible for youngsters to get on the property ladder so that’s a concern. We’ve lived here 17 years now and I still enjoy it.

You do have to look into licensing, there are rules about employment and housing, very strict.

Is cost of living that much higher than in the UK? What does an average weekly shop for 2 adults 2 kids cost for example?

Have you researched the conditions you need to meet in order to live there? AFAIK, you can't just pitch up and move in. You need a job with licensed status.

And there's no NHS.

If you are ever thinking of living on any island, see what it is like in January and February.

I like jersey but it's small, and everyone knows everyone... And you can't just move there
