Negative comment on positive feedback EBay

Hi there,
Looking for some advice from fellow ebayers.

I have recently received a positive feedback with negative comments from a buyer and was wondering what to do.

The comment basically said the items are not in "good condition" and the postage was high.

It was 4 x mens T-shirts. Three of them had either never been worn or only worn once or twice and had sat in storage. They were listed as "used"
I charged £4 p&p as the actual cost is £3.35(I think) and I always charge a little more on postage as after eBay takes there fee your actually losing money if you ask the buyer to pay what it costs you to post.

Anyway I digress...
The buyer had not messaged me to complain about the condition of the items and he obviously knew what he was paying for postage when he bought the items. Do I contact him to try and resolve this issue in some way or just ignore?
I suffer with anxiety and things like this really play on my mind/upset me. I hate to think of a buyer feeling that I've "stiffed" them in some way.
I've had a few ebayers message me in the past if they've been unhappy in some way with an item. Giving me a chance to work with them to resolve the problem.
I haven't been given a chance on this occasion and I don't want the comment to deter future buyers. I also don't understand why they'd leave positive feedback if they were clearly unhappy with both the postage and product

Do you have lots of feedback scores? I only bother reading the ones that are red for negative, so I'd ignore it if I was you. Unless you can add a wee note underneath to explain that the seller hadn't contacted you about any problems.

Antarcticant · 26/05/2022 18:56

I think leaving negative comments under a positive is against eBay rules. If you have lots of good feedback, though, I would be tempted just to leave it, annoying as it might be, as any retraction/revision/comment will just draw more attention to it.

Motherhippo · 26/05/2022 18:59

1 month - 14 (all positive)
6 month - 21 (all positive)
12 month - 37 (all positive)

This is my first (sort of) negative review and it sucks.
But thanks for your advice I'll just ignore and move on

I would either just ignore, or just give a generic thanks for feedback. Or you could just politely point out that you only charge what it costs + eBay fees, which is £4.00 for a small parcel and customer had not raised any concerns before leaving FB.
It's mostly negative feedback that people read, I doubt anyone's gonna be reading all your positive feedback. it's annoying when people make negative comments without saying anything, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Antarcticant · 26/05/2022 19:03

Even if it's an actual red, I pay no attention to an isolated red in a sea of greens. Very bad form of the buyer, though, not to contact you with an issue. I never understand people complaining about the postage - they can see what the postage is when they buy the item; if they think it's high they should either not buy or negotiate before purchase.

Motherhippo · 26/05/2022 19:46

I feel a lot better now, thank you all!
I have left neutral feedback and blocked the buyer - although I'm sure he wouldn't be wanting to buy anything else from me in the future anyway.
And exactly @Antarcticant why complain about the p&p when it's blatantly obvious when you bid on the item. I remember putting something up for sale and accidentally put p&p as £20.00 rather than £2.00.
I had someone message querying this before/without making a bid - I then promptly rectified my error.
The sad thing is - if he had have contacted me with his disappointment I'd have probably offered to either refund the p&p or offered him the chance to return the item for a refund if he was unhappy with the items.
I guess it's just one of those things if you're a seller on eBay. 🤷‍♀️

I'd ignore it too as a reply to it will draw attention to it. I'm intrigued as to your last comment about leaving the buyer neutral feedback as you can only leave positive feedback for buyers?

Motherhippo · 26/05/2022 19:54

Sorry @Poppyseed14 I meant my comment was neutral/not negative - along the lines of "quick payment. Thanks very much"

Ah I'm with you now. Tbh there are some proper eejits on Ebay. Don't give this one another thought x

Best to ignore, I had one of these sold a load of expensive nearly new exoterra items for reptiles for really cheap, when arrived they decided they overpaid for postage and just left a negative, despite the fact they paid what I had been quoted when I weighed the large heavy box and they got the items for less than £1 each. Some people are never happy!

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 26/05/2022 21:21

I've had a few ebayers message me in the past if they've been unhappy in some way with an item.
I'm sorry but out of 37 transactions if you've had that many issues you might need to describe things more accurately. Eg these items were in storage but did you check their condition/wash them before selling? Clothes deteriorate over time.
As a seller I got about 1-2 issue messages per 100 transactions and only got negative feedback when I couldn't deal with an issue because it was my dad's funeral that week. I wasn't particularly good at ebaying.
Going forward, maybe think on what you need to do to avoid unsatisfied buyers instead of relying on dealing with issues after the fact. For example more photos in good lighting and really accurate descriptions e.g. "they've got dust on them and will be sent unwashed" or "tiny hole in sleeve" or "postage costs more due to living 10 miles from post office".
Having said that, it's specifically against ebay's policy to leave a negative comment on a positive plus, so report the comment and they will remove it.

Motherhippo · 26/05/2022 22:00

@PeekabooAtTheZoo I've sold more than 37 items but not all sellers leave feedback.
It's definitely been a learning curve and I do try and take pictures, and will list imperfections if I see them and I do actively look for them now.

I've got 2 small children and am trying to upload pictures in between looking after them. I do try and have good attention to detail but I am but (a sleep deprived) human.

I don't like wasting mine or anyone else's time selling them items that don't meet their expectations especially during times where money is in short supply for a lot of people (myself included) Appreciate your feedback and will continue to try and up my eBay game

People don’t realise with postage costs that eBay take their cut.

i have an eBay shop. At the moment, eBay take 19% of everything the buyer pays. So if I charge £4 for postage, I actually receive £3.24. Parcel post plus packaging materials are not covered by this, but buyers don’t seem to realise that the cost of the stamp isn’t the only cost involved.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 26/05/2022 22:49

I offer free postage for this reason - and just factor it in to the minimum starting price.
