To be devasted about gum recession

It's so ageing! Quite literally becoming long in the tooth in my 30s.

I don't have gum disease but have been very stressed recently. Perhaps over brushing? I have pretty good dental hygiene and just swapped to a soft tooth brush and tee pee sticks.

Has anyone managed to half the recession? Anyone had a gum graft...?! It's my top front teeth so am really considering it.

Might post a photo if feeling brave..

Have you visited a periodontist? You might need some treatment to halt the recession. It may not improve the situation hugely but it will stop further fun loss.

I have this too, my dentist last week told me to be less vigorous with my toothbrush as that, along with the age thing was causing it. I brush very hard and bleed quite regularly.

Is there treatment to half the recession? My dentist and hygienist don't seem to think it's gum disease related

@Notthatbusy my dentist said it was just one of those things. I take an immunosuppressant drug and a lot of people observed the same (on the FB group), so we all assumed it was the drug. My last dentist said there was some connection but not enough and he said also age and vigorous brushing. Neither recommended any treatment (I recently changed practice, hence the two opinions). My teeth and gums are very healthy for my age. I noticed this happening about two years ago.

If you're concerned about brushing too hard do you use an electric toothbrush with a pressure censor? I'm a generally stressed person and tend to brush too hard but have found it easier to manage with this type of brush although I don't have any signs of receding gums currently or previously.

Have you thought about having a second opinion at a private dentists who may offer cosmetic options NHS don't.

Notthatbusy · 26/05/2022 18:36

Thanks @Redpriestandmozart . Im sorry you have it too. My dentist seems a bit unfussed by it too....but it doesn't look great. I have it quite badly on my left top incisor - am right handed so I guess that's where the over brushing happens most.

My teeth have always been good to me but since pregnancy they have gone to shit. I'm quite vain about them so seriously considering some kind of treatment if it can't be stopped from getting worse!

My dentist is private (not a hope of NHS around here!) but not cosmetic. I think I might go for a second opinion with a periodontist/cosmetic dentist.

I honestly think my electric toothbrush has made it worse, even with pressure sensor. I'm trying a super soft manual and it feels so much better, alongside the tee pee sticks.
