House plant pots - why don't the manufacturers of the ceramic pots collaborate with the manufacturers of the plastic pots?

The issue. You have an indoor plant. You pot it into a plastic soil-holding pot. Then you go look for a ceramic pot to match your decore. And you find that the ceramic pots are all way too big or just too small. So you end up with a plastic lip showing.

I have the same problem with outdoor plants, too, but outdoors I can (and do) dispense with the ceramic pretty.

The plastic pot/ ceramic outer pot mismatch drives me insane! I have resorted to walking round garden centres trying plastic pots in outers, and taking my outer ones in and trying every bloody plastic one and they are all wrong. Ended up once with a weird clear orchid plastic pot just to fit in an outer one. Pisses. Me. Off!

I complained to a garden centre employee once who looked at me like I was an idiot and he had lost the will to live there and then.

I have also got lots where I've butchered the plastic pot to cut it down to size.

My DH and his cacti would agree with you.

The plastic pots are all standard horticultural sizes and have been for decades. They are made and sold in their billions.

The decorative ceramic pot makers are the twits.

YADNBU! Infuriating and perplexing!

Yanbu!!

I'm so glad it's not just me that feels like this. I would buy from a company that sold the plastic and ceramic pots together.

This is very interesting and makes sense.

What the fuck is wrong with the ceramic pot makers then!!

YANBU at all, it’s infuriating. All of my cactuses and succulents are in terracotta pots as they’re better for drainage, but tropical plants do better in plastic pots and finding the right sized decorative pot to go with them is a pain!

swedex · 31/05/2022 22:11

Totally agree! Also finding some of my indoor plants are growing out of the plastic pots so want to repot them into bigger plastic pots and I cannot find them anyway!!
I'm also not in the Uk so struggling to find places here!

I bought plant pots on Etsy a couple of years ago and I was able to choose the size.
