AIBU to expect a charity donation to be acknowledged?

Probably! So clearing out this year. Baby items, old phones, DVDs, jewellery, good quality clothes.

I have used two major charities bag it up parcel services via Yodel.

Sent four parcels so far and no acknowledgement at all. No email etc. Would be good to know stuff is getting there plus I could sign a gift aid declaration.

So IABU or would you expect an email?

Voted YABU. Imagine how much time it would take up thanking everyone that donated.

I donate to charity quite a bit & I never expect an acknowledgment- I’m happy for them to be too busy working on what they do! Shows I’ve given to a good charity in my mind! It would take up all their time if they had to thank everyone!

Merryclaire · 24/05/2022 23:01

I think they are too busy - plus they get so much junk they don’t really want, it’s a massive job to pick through everything.

ImInStealthMode · 24/05/2022 23:04

A donation of money, yes an acknowledgment might be nice. Of stuff? No. YABU.

Take it into a shop if you want to receive a personal thank you. Though it'll be a quick "thanks" whilst they're busy working.

Sometimes I get an email a few weeks/months afterwards saying how much was raised ( you can use this for your tax return, donations)

Stroopwaffels · 24/05/2022 23:16

I am a charity shop volunteer and we always thank customers who donate. And if you are signed up for Gift Aid with us, the charity emails you every so often to let you know how much your stuff has raised.

But we as a sector are crying out for decent volunteers at the moment, there just aren't enough people to sort. Your box is perhaps not even opened yet.

I thinks that's to do with gift aid, not because its a thank you as such.

UsernameAlwaysTaken · 24/05/2022 23:17

You'd want a charity to spend money on wages to pay someone to sit and write thank you emails daily? 🤔

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/05/2022 23:19

I've never used a parcel service for charity donations, but generally if you Gift Aid it you will get something from them eventually saying how much was raised. And asking for more donations.

CapMarvel · 24/05/2022 23:21

So basically you are using a charity as a recycling service and expect them to spend the time they need sorting everything out, preparing it for sale etc sending you a personal thank you each time?

Nope. YABU.

PearlPerch · 24/05/2022 23:23

Thanks all. No I definitely don't want a personal email just an automated one so I know donations arrived and to tick the gift aid box! I thought this added ££ to any sales.

Ive never received a thank you and I fill out those gift aid forms if it's a big ticket item. I also donate by direct debit and all that gets me is emails/calls asking for more.

If you contact their supporter care they can change your contact preferences.
