Is it weird to call someone first name and middle name ?

My sister just had a baby and gave her a family name as the middle name. I've noticed my parents keep calling the child both names. In fact the child actually has three names. But my parents keep calling her the first and middle name. Is that weird ? They're both long names and I'm not sure my sister's intention was for the child to be called both names all the time. Think something along the lines of Isabelle Juliette in terms of how long both names are...

Is that an odd thing to do ? Or totally normal ? The names are not hyphenated. I have seen my sis cringe sometimes and not sure I should bring it up.. probably best stay out of it..

Did they want the family name to be the first name, so insist on using both to make sure the family name isn’t just a formality

DH and MIL did this with DS when he was born. His names flow well, and his middle name is after FIL, so I think they both liked using it. After a while they stopped doing it.

In my family, I'm the only one who seems to occasionally be called by both names. I have no idea why that is.

Only when giving them into trouble in our house, then they got the full benefit of first name, both middle names and surname 😂

I know an Ella Mae and an Emma Leigh, both of whom are adults, and both of whom have always been known by their first and middle names.

I think that's it.

I mostly call my daughter by both her names. People go on here about how no ones uses the middle name so don't worry too much about it, but in real life , lots of people I know use both.

I think it's probably just a 'massively excited about this new human being and trying her name out for size' kind of thing. It won't last! My mum kept lots of cards and things that we were given when we were babies and some of the early ones to my sister from both sets of grandparents say 'Emma Louise' rather than just 'Emma' (those aren't are her real names, but they're along those lines). But my and brother's just have our first names, so I can only assume they were just at peak 'first grandchild' excitement or something.

I sometimes call DD by her first and middle name because they sound lovely together (or so I think). I definitely wouldn’t say it’s weird calling someone by their first and middle name.

Are you sure it's not a hyphenated first name?
I have a seventies style hyphenated name and have always been known by both names, people can't seem to get their head around it though .

I don't understand why there's such a lack of communication between so close relatives tbh. Why can't you just ask them? They'd be asked in my family and everyone I know.

I get first and middle name at big family gatherings, as there are two other women in my wider family with the same first name as me

Youcunnyfunt · 25/05/2022 13:17

I think some people just get this more than others. My parents and extended family sometimes use my middle names, and I'm mid-30s!
