To think charging for 2 is unfair

I'm on 20mg of a medication, paying £9.35 every 2 months for the prescription.

The dose has been changed to 30mg - it doesn't come in 30mg so it's been prescribed in 20mg & 10mg - two boxes, same medication.

So now I'm paying double, £18.70 every two months, this seems very unfair. AIBU?

Some GP surgeries are utterly clueless and careless when it comes to prescriptions. Mine frequently misses items (or entire requests). If it were, say, cream cakes missing from an Asda delivery, it would be annoying enough; but I don't think some of the people who approve the prescriptions at GP surgeries actually quite understand that these are often life-saving and/or severe pain-relieving drugs.

Same as the surgeries that just shut up shop during Covid and refused to see or help anybody for months on end - I think some of them seem to think that they're like theme park gift shops that can open whenever they fancy raking in the custom but then nobody would really care or lose out if they needed/wanted to close.

Also, I think the people advocating pre-payment certificates are missing the fact that OP gets these every two months, so paying a tenner a month would actually cost a bit more.

Thank you SO much everyone. I can happily report I think it's finally been resolved!

@Livebythecoast you were absolutely right, your post was instrumental in them realising what had gone wrong.

It took another 3 phone calls, an email (saying what you said, Livebythecoast) to the practice (I CCd the practice manager and asked for their complaints procedure too) and a call from the pharmacist to the practice but they've said my latest script is now available and this and all subsequent scripts will be on one s ript, as I should be. I'll report back when I've picked it up!

Technically they can’t prescribe 30 mg because it isn’t available

So you have one set that is 20 and one set that is 10 and you take 2 tablets.

They can (and should) prescribe 30 mg, because that is what they require the patient to have at each dose. It's then completely normal practice (when required due to manufacturing or supply limitations, for example) for a pharmacy to dispense 20 mg + 10 mg tablets in order to give a dose of 30 mg.

I've asked GP surgery several times but they keep refusing, and the pharmacist is bewildered as she said they can issue a single script but they always send two!

Escalate to the practice manager and put in there that your next step is to complain to everyone including following this advice www.cqc.org.uk/contact-us/how-complain/complain-about-gp-dentist-or-eye-care

Oh just seen your update - excellent news Smile

Lulu1919 · 28/05/2022 08:08

No that's wrong
I take a medication that i have in two separate tablets ..a 75 mg and a 37mg I pay one script charge
HRT though I pay two because it's two different medications !

Oldraver · 28/05/2022 08:37

You're lucky to get a prescription every two months

Policy here is a 28 day prescription

Livebythecoast · 29/05/2022 13:24

@Redouble - Glad it's been sorted 🤗 - I knew that's what had happened!
