Fluoxetine 2nd time round - different experience.

I have taken 20mg of fluoxetine before about 2.5 years ago. I took it for anxiety/irrational thinking. Gradually came off it after a year. It helped alot.
I think I had a headache for a couple of days, a few sleepless nights but after about a week or so I could feel the benefits.
I have started taking it again. On day 11 and feel...hard to explain. On edge. As if I'm feeling startled constantly. You know when something makes you jump and you feel an instant shock, tummy turns, a bit shaky, that kind of feeling but all of the time. I'm not sedated but feel high in an anxious way. It's really horrible and I'm concerned it's the medication.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I took citalopram firstly (when taking medication before) but could not shift the nausea/sickness side effects.
I honestly thought this was going to help but I'm feeling awful. I just want to be asleep to not feel so on edge.

Sounds like it’s not agreeing with you, but they say you should leave it a few weeks to settle, why don’t you see if you can book a GP appointment for when you’ve been on it a few weeks?
if you are really uncomfortable you don’t need to take it, you can try something else.
i had a similar experience starting sertraline but it settled down after about a week. Full of nervous energy

I was in a similar position as you a few months ago OP. Went back onto fluoxetine after a year off of it. I don't remember the side effects being so bad the first time around - maybe headaches, strange dreams for a few weeks but not much else, and within 6 weeks I felt back to normal. This time around though getting back into it was awful. I was having panic attacks, feeling like my body was literally aching from the anxiety and I could barely get out of bed. If anything it made my anxiety a million times worse. I did persevere through it and after a few weeks I felt a million times better, but the only reason I persevered was because I knew it had worked previously. So I would say try and get through it if you think you can, but if it's too tough then definitely speak to your doctor about alternatives. Sending lots of sympathy your way, I know how fucking horrible it all is. One of my friends was put on sertraline for his depression and he was having hallucinations during the first couple of weeks so the medicines for depression and anxiety can definitely make things worse before they get better, in many different ways.

i would go back to your GP, there are so many more options than there used to be, find one that suits you. I was originally on duoloxetine prescribed by a consultant as any other medication didn’t suit me. GPs can now prescribe this & it works for me, it’s just a case of trial & error until you find one that suits you.
I had heart burn with fluoxetine & horrible nightmares with citalopram.

Thankyou all so much.
It's day 12 and I have a telephone consultation with a nurse prescriber Friday (can't seem to be able to talk to a GP these days). I will mention it but I know citalopram didn't agree with me last time. I want to try to persevere as I remember it helping me last time.
I had bloods done and my iron levels were low so I have been on iron supplements for the same amount of time as fluoxetine.
This time around. My nervous system is so raised that I can't eat. It's definitely like nervous energy, you're right.
I hope this passes. I really don't want to stop and restart something new.
