To think I can make two days by the seaside as good as two weeks abroad?

For a variety of reasons we can’t go away this year and we haven’t been away for the last two years mainly because covid but other reasons too. We have a friendship circle where everyone else has been away at least twice and just heading into talking about everyone’s summer holidays. We can do two days by the seaside but I’m thinking if we throw money at it and try and find a nice hotel with a pool and just let the Kids have as much ice cream and fish and chips etc. Wondering if you fantastic people can think of anything inventive to make it seem extra exciting. We are going to get up very early to go and I’m going to make the kids a pack like you get on a plane.m, and make hotel welcome basket etc but trying to think outside of the box.

Plan a ‘outing’ for on your way down as you probably won’t be able to get into the hotel until later eg Sealife centre or trampoline park if the weather is poor.

Alternatively, you will probably be able to access the pool before check-in, so make sure you pack your swimming stuff separately.

Take a windbreak & wetsuits to get enjoyment on the beach if weather isn’t great. Also kite to fly.

I do not know if you have cheap party stores (Dollar Store here in USA) in your area, but you might consider buying cheap party decorations for a beach picnic party depending on age of your kids. Add some fancy cupcakes and fruit punch. Balloons, banners, paper plates and napkins and maybe call it Welcome Back To Fun Day?

I love this! I will make the picnic extra special!

Where are you based? If in the south then why not head for the Isle of Wight - at least they get the ferry journey and if the weather isn’t great there is so much to do there for kids. Roman ruins, Carrisbrooke castle, osbourne house as well as indoor pools, amusements, theme park, dinosaur museum. if you’re lucky with the weather then the beaches are stunning, horse riding, water sports etc.
The island is small so you can pack 3 activities a day in. There are some nice hi tales but if I were you I’d go to a really nice mobile home - kids love a caravan and it’s only 2 nights. Then there’s tacky kids discos in the evenings too.
If you’re in the North…😬
