My newborn snores so loudly I can't sleep!

I've taken her to the doctor who says oxygen stats are fine. But I literally can't sleep anymore. It's so loud ! Has anyone had this experience ? What's my best next point of action here ? I'm afraid the GP will fob me off again. Maybe it really is just snoring, I just don't know.

Lungs seemed clear, the GP said. I think it's coming from the nose.

Ear plugs.

Thethreecs · 22/05/2022 09:29

Can you get their adenoids checked? Dd had hers removed as they were very large and causing her to snore.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/05/2022 09:30

We had a snoring baby too. I feel your pain! Something that alleviated it somewhat was a Vicks baby plug in menthol thing near the cot. I expect you can still get them so it might help. Strength 💪

GP didn't even look there. I mentioned it and she said it's too early to be the adenoids. Not sure if that's true. I haven't got a lot of confidence when it comes to GP and their opinions on children / babies.

Tiny babies can be so loud, I had a prem baby and he grunted all night.

My last one grunted a lot as well. But this one snores so loudly !And you can't just nudge her to shut up, like you can an adult..

Mine was like this get some ear plugs , they don’t completely block out the noise , you will still wake for night feeds. They’ll just make things abit quieter x

Put baby in a different room.

It was dds paediatrician who referred her to ENT hospital.. Dd was getting really bad ear and throat infections and then the very loud snoring. It was discussed with us that adenoids are to prevent viruses but it can happen that when they're enlarged it can cause snoring and ironically , ear and throat infections.

We had to go on a wait list so she was over 1 year old by the time she was called, I think but am not definite that you need to be over a year old. Worth a shot asking as it'll mean being able to go on wait list. No harm getting it checked, if it's something else they can pick it up.

If it were me I'd speak with the GP again and ask for a referral, I understand your gp isn't the best but sometimes you need to push for these things.

Doingmybest12 · 22/05/2022 09:45

We used to say it was like sleeping with sheep and moved them in their own room as soon as we felt OK about it, I think also we are programmed to have half an ear open as well. You'll get used to it I hope.

RandomMess · 22/05/2022 09:54

Does your partner sleep through it? If so I would decamp to another room.

I couldn't sleep in the same room as my babies, I woke instantly from next door still at the slightest squawk fine enough.

Bluepolkadots42 · 22/05/2022 09:55

Definitely get checked for tongue tie. That can really impact sleep in a number of ways. Hvs, GPs, midwives etc are not trained to check for these. You need a specialist to do this. I would go private if you can and find your local practitioner through the association of tongue tie practitioners.

Apparently I snored so loudly from the day I was born, that after first sleepless night I was moved to my own room. I had my tonsil and adenoids removed at 2yrs old, and apparently everyone finally got some decent sleep 🤣

addler · 22/05/2022 10:14

I moved DS to the foot of our bed rather than right next to me. That plus white noise was enough to dull it a bit for me.

Put baby in a different room.

that is not in line with current safe sleep advice to keep them in the same room with you for 6m.

ipswichwitch · 22/05/2022 10:30

DS1 snored like an overweight middle aged man pretty much from birth. He developed sleep apnoea, and had tonsillitis and ear infections frequently. He finally had tonsils and adenoids removed age 2.5yrs, and that first night he was so quiet DH kept poking him to check he was still breathing! the surgeon said his tonsils and adenoids were massive, and he’s never snored or had an ear/throat infection since.
id see a different gp if you can and get them checked out. Our gp didn’t believe me until I showed him the recording I’d taken on him snoring and his breathing pausing, and him crying himself awake when it restarted. Got referred to ent pretty sharpish after that!
