Brought to my house

Idiot father if so 🙄

HeddaGarbled · 22/05/2022 00:39

Send them home with it, in case the dad gets arsey.

LibraryFairy · 22/05/2022 00:49

I'd hide it so they can't drink it, but so that it's there if the dad asks for it back.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2022 01:02

Definitely. It's your house.

Mckmck · 22/05/2022 01:27

I'd drink it

Veuvelily · 22/05/2022 01:39

So they all had a bottle opened, only one was really drinking it.
I took it off them, they were leaving, I was tidying up. And I poured it away. No attempt to hide it.
what if the parents don’t know? and they sneaked it out?
I’m not happy
im responsible for these kids when they’re at my house.

How come you noticed so late into the evening? If you’re responsible for them when in your house, you should have clocked it earlier.

Hawkins001 · 22/05/2022 02:27

If in the UK and in a private residence, they can legally drink it. Not saying it's right. Just from a legal perspective, they can drink it.

FFS stop finding something to pick on. You have no idea how OP didn't notice for as she hasn't said. They are 14 year olds, it's perfectly normal for 14 year old friends to have friends round without constantly being under the all seeing eye of a parent.

Perhaps OP forgot to slam them against the wall for a search when they came in ?

Your house your rules OP YANBU.

Veuvelily · 22/05/2022 07:35

They were in the garden. They came through the side gates.
that wasn’t suspicious, they often go that way..

they came at 8pm and this was 10pm.
actually I checked on them a fair few times and thinking about it there was no beer. I reckon one of them went home and got it, they live in the same road.

I would trust my 14 y o not to have beer.
Kids might turn up with fizzy drinks or sweets and largely 14 y o don't need supervising.
I think you did the right thing OP.
Have you talked to your son about the effects of alcohol, and the stupid things people do when drunk.
I very much doubt Dad said child could take a case of beer to his 14 y o friends house.

Absolutely wonderful example of MN investigative procedure. If the police adopted @Furries approach, successful prosecutions would hit 100% overnight.

"Officer, I'd like to report a crime."

"So you admit you were present! You're nicked, matey."

@WalkingOnTheCracks
I swear some people on here were witchfinders in previous lives.

Im going to say she didn't notice because she wasnt watching them like a hawk every second they were there

Are you giving your perfect parent prize to the winner?

Without knowing any of the background this seems quite an extreme reaction isn't sneaking a drink of alcohol at 14 pretty much par for the course?

Seems to be for all of the teenagers I know.
You did the right thing OP

Veuvelily · 22/05/2022 09:02

it wasn’t like I dramatically confiscated it and poured it down the sink in front of them.
I went out as they were leaving to make sure they tidied up, so I asked them to bring in the bottles. They were pretty full.
his parents are quite laid back, but I know one of the boys parents would be horrified .
now I don’t know if I speak to the parents if I’ll be grassing them up or showing my disproval of them sending beer. I knew this day would come and tbh I thought I’d be the easy going parent, but not at 14. I’ve offered my son a beer at our family occasions and he’s not interested. But it’s different offering your child in your home.

Veuvelily · 22/05/2022 09:03

And being there to supervise.
my son is nearly 6ft, he’s adult size, some of these boys are still tiny

Furries · 22/05/2022 10:29

Given the OP said it was clocked when they were leaving, it was a legitimate question.

OP has now clarified she’d checked on them a few times (horror, fancy supervising kids!)

Not really relevant. Op doesn't want her 14 year old drinking; or other 14 year old's drinking in her house.
Neither would I.

So can five year olds. The legality is not really the issue here, is it.

Momicrone · 22/05/2022 11:25

Seems a waste to throw it away, drink it yourself

QuestionableMouse · 15/06/2022 00:30

Imo better them drinking beer in the house than nasty cheap cider outside of it.
