To not agree with venue owners posting live

I enjoy meeting my girlfriends in the evening from time to time. We’re a group of 8 mums and we’ve known each other for 10 years +. It’s nice to be able to enjoy a meal, have a few drinks, laugh and let loose - I find it good for the soul. However lately it seems every pub, bar, restaurant owner has taken to ‘going live’ on social media ie panning the venue and uploading the footage to their social media accounts. This makes me uncomfortable. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing to hide and am not doing anything untoward but I would like to be able to relax, enjoy myself and even maybe engage in a little ‘mum dancing’ with my friends without seeing myself on social media next day! I get that it’s promotion for their business “look at the great time our customers are having! Come along and you could be having a great time to” … but surely it’s not good to post footage of people without their knowledge/permission, especially if they’re having a few drinks?

Is there signage saying they will be doing this, and advising you not to come in if you don’t want to be included? I believe they have to do something along these lines legally, so that you have the chance to opt out. It could be a huge safeguarding risk for eg victims of domestic violence or stalking.

I would hate this, but I’ve never been anywhere where this has happened.

I went to a ‘mum brunch’ once (never again) and you couldn’t even engage in conversation with anyone or pick up your fork without the photographer snapping it for the ‘gram.

I’m not sure that’s a thing in a public place, but I could be wrong.

I would actively avoid anywhere that did this!

Yanbu. Don’t go there anymore, and tell them why. They’re using you, unpaid, as cheap advertising, and those videos exist forever.

I went to a gym once that had a sign on the door of the female changing room saying that they’re making a documentary about the gym and you may be filmed anywhere within the gym, including changing rooms, and by walking through the door you consent to this. Screw that, I turned around left and did not return.
